This is just a post to warn everybody that my new killing P4 machine returned from dealer's workshop after a short visit (seems that a DDR2 memory module was faulty), and I'm back to my usual account with a terrific configuration that includes two TFT monitors and a state-of-the-art GeForce graphic card. I got the tools, now I must start to produce nice things with them...
Apart from the boast, I want to thank personally the people that shared their thoughts and opinions in this forum after the DExB affair. This is very positive for everybody. But most part of the users remain silent, and that's not good for Orphalese's future. Even if you're a guest, even if you've been around here for a little time, you're entitled and invited to share your thoughts. Maybe some of you came here because you had a glimpse of the Deck Exchange, and now you don't have it. What do you think? The rest of the program's features are teasing enough? Is there life after losing the chance of clogging your hard disk with new decks? Whatever cross your mind in this moment can be useful to define the future of all this.
I can understand publisher's point of view, I have plenty of experience in this field. But they must also hear our version of the movie. Maybe if we all work together, we can get something interesting for everyone. That's my wish... Best.

Dominatrix,
Good to know it was just a faulty DDR2 and not your creative keyboard pounding & tower kicking that messed with your P4 machine .0 )
Without going back to the Zone Home, its one of your cards that is up, right? I like that card!
You know, speaking of other delights in the Orphalese, I am so GLAD I didn't upload ALL THOSE SPREADS I have put on my hard drive that I got from the AT! The one I did upload I did have permission. Whew!
But I see now, that I need to go into my stash of spreads, email everyone personally to get permission to upload them. (Ah gotta upload something! Sharing is an awesome addiction, eh? LOL!)
I would love to do more backgrounds, but the ones that are already on the OPT are enough (for the time being) to keep me satisfied..He hee heee!
I'm not the best writer or speller around these here parts, but I for one would love to see more articles uploaded! Everyone has an opinion and has learn so much from their travels through life with their tarot addictions, that, that file should be overloaded with reading material!!! HINT HINT HINT!! :0 )
Untill the deck exchange can return with a much expected all day & night party, I will hit the spreads section to see what I can upload for all to enjoy!
Till then, I continue to use my OPT program to do readings and sending them to my ppls!!!!
All hail the King of the Divan and his Royal Court! Ohhhh kkkk, how about a hardy thanks? LOLOL!!
Are you going to surprise us with more of your sparkling talents, Dominatrix??? Don't let my ramblings on here keep you from your inspiring work of arts!!!
I'm looking at Marvins creations, at the moment, and pondering Oh what shall I chose from! :0)
Hugs to all!
Barb

Re: Re: Back for Good/Howdy Ho, Dominatrix!
Well, JFYI, the new P4 machine has been baptised as Ace of Spades... and customized accordingly. Old machine performed really good, but it was two years old and the idea was being ready for the upcoming release of Windows Vista new year: Orphalese is one of the few programs prepared for the new OS.
The idea on the articles is very appealing. Richard wanted it as a strong point of the OTZ, but seems we all went crazy for the Deck Exchange, especially after the WWPCM madness, and neglected this part. Maybe is a good moment for retaking it.
If someone is interested in 1280 x 1024 wallpapers, let me know. I got plenty of them, even just some are Orphalese-oriented. I know Marvin is working hard in a pair of new projects, but I can't say no more. And I'm starting to have some ideas myself... Best.

Re: Re: Re: Back for Good
You are right, we all need all opinions...that is the only way to learn something, or we might belive that we have the ultimate solution:)
As for the forum and OTZ, I hope it still will have a life after this. In a way I feel that I meet people with the same kind of interest and I always hope for a lot of post to look at and in a way we was moving forward in this, because of the note work.
Many times the first post is the hardest one and if you overcome this one, every post there after become easier and easier.
We will still have many things in OTZ and we don't know how the talk Richard wil have with publisher will end, so there are still good reason to visit the community, and say hello:)
About Publisher and Orphalese and understanding.
In my opinion has the one who have taken action, blinders on. He/she look only on copyright and nothing more.
If you take the blinders off, you will see a program that promote Tarot to a bigger audiense then the publisher manage themself. With this program a newcommer can learn how to use Tarot and easy learn the basic steps due to the card notes, spreads and personal notes. He can follow this session for session if he save his spread, I will claim that buying a deck and a book will not give that many Tarot lovers so easy.
Now for decks.
If you have bought Orphalese and downloaded a lot of decks and feel that is enough for you, then this person will never buy more then 1 deck (maybe never buy because he has no interest) and can never be called a true Tarot fan.
One of the more asked features in Orphalese was the opertunity to recreate a spread from real card in order to work more serious with the notes. In my opinion can we say that Orphalese here is a more advance version of Word. You can do the same there, but with a lot more work.
As mention from a lot here in the community the option to download deck was a very nice way to promote an artist and for many of us worked as an carrot to buy more then we would othervise. I wonder how much they have to pay in add to get the same response. Here Richard you have to sell your spot in the forum to the Publisher, and ask good price for it, because I will never buy any downloads deck I haven't seen.
Even if we love Tarot, we must admitt that we are few when we see at the big picture. Therfore I belive all Publisher of Tarot cards have much to gain from working together with Orphalse then work ageinst it!
A nice day to you all:)

Hi All!,
Dominatrix is right! I have been working on a number of projects.......
A tarot deck (with Dominatrix's help!) A Traditional Ukiyoe Tarot.
Another tarot deck! Tarot of Space.
A cartomancy deck. The Chinese Art deck.
And another cartomancy deck. The Mineral deck.
I have also redone two decks that I made last year:
1) The Angel deck. I hope that I didn't clip too many wings! I replaced duplicate cards, and have a new border on it.....
2) The Renaissence Costume deck. I may have to do some more work on it!
Any input would be greatly appreciated! I don't like how so many of the heads got clipped!
As soon as we find out what the status is on the deck exchange, I'll upload them and we'll go from there!
(If they don't want us to post their decks, we'll post our own!)
Take Care,
Marvin
P.S. I support Richard! This is our community, and we have a major say in what goes on here! Peace Everyone!

Hi All *smiles*
I am a practice reader and find the programme invaluable as a learning tool. I was most disheartened to see that the deck exchange had been withdrawn, but I see that it was necessary. I agree with the majority here.... this programme has pomoted so many decks, that the publishers can't see the benefit of this astounds me *sighs*. I have read for a number of my friends using different decks and some of them have loved the decks so much that they went out and bought the physical deck.
If there is anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to ask. I support Richard and this community 100+.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Back for Good
I haven't posted to the forum before now, but I wanted to add my voice.
I'm a fairly new user of Orphalese, but it has become one of my most frequently used programs (second only to Thunderbird amd Firefox and running neck and neck with The Journal) and it has transformed both my use of Tarot in general and my Tarot buying habits - both books and cards - in specific.
I have, in the past three months, bought four decks as a direct result of being able to view and practice with them in Orphalese before purchase. Without that opportunity, I would not have purchased them over the span of a year simply because I would not be confident enough in whether or not they'd work for me if I had to work blindly, based on seeing only a couple cards and not being able to actually see how they play out in readings.
Even more than that, though, I am using Orphalese to work with cards I've already purchased - scans of cards are used in my electronic journal archives (I keep my notes in The Journal), readings done by hand are archived in the Readings section for future reference and sometimes transferred to a document that can be emailed to others. I love this feature and will continue to use it, but it depends on having scanned versions of decks I own.
Even more than deciding not to buy a deck because I haven't been allowed to preview it extensively, I know I will decline to purchase one where a scanned version won't be available for my use after purchase. I have simply become too dependent on the ability to keep my records along with a scanned image.
While I understand and respect the need and desire of publishers to protect their copyright, I hope they are reading this forum and that they respect and understand the needs and desires of their customers as well. If they comprehend what it is they are selling, they will understand that we would not, as a rule, use the scanned images as a replacement for working with the actual deck - rather this is a valuable tool that lets us get more out of their product and far more inclined to purchase more of their products.
Oh - and I just remembered that I have also used Orphalese to get one person with a (very casual) interest in Tarot choose and purchase his first deck - he was aware only of RWS and had no idea there were so many to choose from and with such a vast array of imagery. He found one to his taste, has been bitten by the Tarot bug and will no doubt purchase more - but only if he can see what it is he is buying.
I strongly hope this can be resolved with mutual respect for all concerned. I would be willing to pay a (reasonable) price for scans, but that will once again insert an element of caution and disinclination to explore decks outside my immediate comfort zone, and I would expect the publishers to take on the task of creating the scans and making sure notes were included with them. I would also want to see something where a person could access scans of decks they've already purchased without having to pay for them. If they're going to get into this game, they're going to have to take on some of the burden.
Or, hey... they could just say thank you to Orphalese for being such a great partner in keeping their sales up and sit back and reap the benefits. I am concerned that this step will not only hurt Orphalese and my private buying habits but also, by making the same mistake music publishers have made, it could hurt the variety and quantity of decks major publishers are able to sell. I expect 'indie' deck artists will continue to get their stuff out there, but the costs will be such that many of us will not be able to afford them.
