Subdividing the Deck Exchange

Post by Gisela Rodriguez »

Hi Richard,

With so many decks, it seems like it might be a good idea to subdivide the exchange into different pages, like one page for Tarot decks, another for Playing Cards, another for Miscellaneous like icons, ebooks, backgrounds, etc.

There must be at least 3 copies of the Symbolon deck on there, one in Spanish and 2 in English, and it's getting harder to keep it all clear.

Is this something that might be done?

What a brilliant idea :) It has become rather messy so I agree.

Another thing that could help is to turn around the display thing on date sort
Today it goes from oldest to newest
Better to show other way.....I think:)
Great program!
Great deck Exchange!
Why on earth will anyone steal such a program...the askingprice is a steal in itself:):)
Big smile to you all

Yikes! I completely missed the earlier posts of the Symbolon pack. Sorry for adding to the clutter!

I am aware of the need to tidy up the exchange a bit, unfortunately I can see that this could become a full-time job. The answer might be to have some people volunteer to be exchange administrators. These people would be like a small team of librarians. They would be able to access a special admin tool to edit the details of the deck (select which category or categories it belongs to from dropdown lists, delete it if necessary etc). Any comments?

Hello Programer :
as not as my fellows users , I believe that the deck exchange should stay as it is ......
why???.........because this way I can explore every kind of decks and even decide by myself to which category catalog it.
the subdivisions i`ve done it in MY deck list
as decks with mayors only
artistic decks , raider waite clones ,diferent oracles , etc
as I find it comfortable to use ..
I believe that you as a programer should be free from this librarian work
otherwise every deck upload from a user should be a work for two ,and not allways agree to what category to add it.
believe me it`s easy to find points of dissagreement in a group of profesionals ....so
i believe that the divission as it is ......name , and date is super
thank you for all the hard work

Hi Richard,

I think the idea of delegation of some cleanup duties makes sense, especially as you're so busy always coming up with new goodies for us to enjoy, as well as tweaking old favorites. I'd be willing to participate in such capacity.

Hi Escorpion, Richard, and all,

I agree that we probably are all better served with few categories.

I don't think that anything more than 4 are needed: Tarot (anything with tarot trumps, with or without minors), Playing Cards (suit cards without tarot trumps whether used for cartomancy or not), Oracles (anything nontarot for divination: runes, i-ching, Lenormand, oh, etc), and Miscellaneous (icons, ebooks, backgrounds, etc.).

As you say, each person will decide for themselves whether a given deck is a waite smith clone, an art deck, or whatever other subcategory suits their purpose. But the list of everything on one page makes it very hard to keep track of what's already there, even with filters for name and date.

It's good to have repeats of some decks because a contributor has redone or tweaked the deck in some way (like color correction, Orphalesing the number system, rotating the cards for better viewing, reducing oversized cards for more appropriate resolution, etc.). That's to be commended, even encouraged, as it makes those decks more enjoyable for all.

But it's also good to keep confusion down, and an excessively long list is very confusing to work with.

Hi All,

I tend to agree with Gisela, with one difference: There should be a seperate caregory for Runic Decks.

And no, I wouldn't mind helping out either, especially if we could get at least four people to share the load.

(And please, don't start throwing decks my way!)

Best to all!

Later,

Marvin
