Version 10.1

Post by Programmer »

* The Deck Exchange now includes a small thumbnail image for each deck shown in the results. This makes it MUCH easier to highlight potentially interesting decks. It is true each page takes a little bit longer to load (with 50 results per page it is like previewing a small 50 card deck) but obviously this is nothing compared to what it would take to preview each of the 50 decks separately.

* The User Profiles page has been tidied up a bit.

* There are now pop-ups in the card position window when dealing a spread in free selection mode. This helps you remember what each position in the spread means.

* The Preview Download button on the Deck Exchange share decks form didn't do anything, this has now been fixed.

* There is now an option to NEVER round edges for people who don't like that and have to set it manually each time they install a new deck with edge rounding.

* When a deck can't be loaded in a collection (for example because it has been moved since the collection was loaded) at the moment it gives an error when you get to it and you can't go past it. This is fixed so it just gets jumped over.

* The PackInfo now saves as nicely formatted XML if you open it in a plain text editor.

* The various browser windows the program offers (for spreads, decks, collections etc) now have a little preview window to help you choose the right deck/spread etc.

* There is now an option to mark any deck folder as a "Dynamic Collection". This works in a similar way to marking one as "Load on Demand". When a folder is also a dynamic collection it means it is like a collection that you never have to edit, any decks in that folder are automatically treated as part of a collection. The collection can be accessed in two ways: 1) it shows up in the collections menu and you can launch it in the normal way (as a side by side collection) and 2) the folder has a different icon in the Decks menu and you can also shift-click on that with the same result.

* There is a tool to check for new updates to the program.

Version 10.1.1.2 - No Scrolling of Notes

Post by MysticEast »

Hi Richard,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings - a new fault with the version I'm using 10.1.1.2

If notes are longer than the Pop-Up, they don't scroll no more!

This is for me at least a critical fault, since so many of the Decks I use do have notes longer than the Pop-Up. Hope you can fix it soon...

Regards
MysticEast

P.S.
It's impossible to test everything in a short time, but I DID test it with that HUGE Spread with the Book of Fate I'm working on. It worked! Brill.
I like the changes you've made to the File Exchange. Keep up the good work! Thanks as always should be to Richard the Merovingian... (No not a Matrix Joke!)

Version 10.1.1.2 Gathering

Post by MysticEast »

Hi again,
I've just found a new error, this time with Gathering of Cards.

a) Gathering only seems to work if the Mouse is hovering over the Deck. Previously any of the Cards would do.

b) Gathering, either using the Keyboard Ctrl + G, or Ctrl + Shift + G or using the Menu Commands all seem to Gather only one card at a time.

Regards
MysticEast

I only noticed this, this morning. I had thought that it was working OK yesterday?
I was running the Shuffling Test at the time, if that might affect it???

I tested out that last idea of whether part b) of the fault mentioned above was due soley to running the Shuffling Test at the same time. This does seem to be true.

That leaves part a) - a minor fault, but tedious, Plus a wierd inter-link between Gathering and the Test module! Go figure!

I hope this clarification helps.

Hi Mystic, I am not worried about any issues with the test module because it is not part of the normal program that anyone else has. Regarding the scrolling of notes, it is working fine on the two machines I've tried it on. Is the machine you are having this issue with a laptop by any chance? Some people have reported this in the past when using laptop scroll bars instead of mouse wheels. Also, did you make sure the card has the focus? Sometimes it is necessary to click on the card to activate it before it will pick up mouse move events.

Hi Richard,
Yes and No!
Yes I'm using a Laptop but No I never use the Laptop Scroll Button or Pointer or Buttons, unless absolutely necessary!
I'm using a Logitech Performance MX Mouse. This is a very good mouse and has a lot of customizable features, however I leave "Application Specific Button Settings" turned off. In any case the Scroll Wheel doesn't have such a setting, so it should be the same for scrolling as any other mouse... (except faster!)

It's faster because not only can you turn the click detents on or off (mechanically) but in the "off" setting the wheel has signinficant mass and the action of "freewheelling", it continues turning even after you stop moving it.. But that's all "Mechanical", not software implemented, so I can't see how it would affect things??

With regard to other details - I'm using Orphalese 10.1.1.2 and Windows 7 Home Premium (with all current updates)

With regard to "Mouse Focus" - to get the notes at all I have to have the mouse over the Card in question. Normally I wouldn't Click on it as well, but just to test and see if that was necessary I tried doing that - no change - the notes still don't scroll!

I hope you can fix this!!
It's quite possible that many people may not have noticed this, since many notes aren't as long as that???

Version 10.1.1.2 Scrolling (Mouse)

Post by MysticEast »

Hi Richard,
as often a walk with the dogs does wonders!
While what I said above is true, about the scroll wheel itself not having options, I noted that the Scroll Wheel "BUTTON" DOES. Two of those options are "Universal Scroll" and "Auto-Scroll", both of which do interesting things, but I prefer the simple brilliance of the "Regular"/Mechanically "Souped Up" Scrolling. It's why I bought the mouse (having experienced it's brilliant predecessor).

this did make me think however that if there are these enhanced Scroll Modes available for the Button, then probably ALL Mouse inputs are "mediated" by the software and then "Simulated" through to the other programs...

Now that opens up the posibility that this is the source of the problem!

Now Logitech Mice are not rare! and while not all have the Mechanically "Souped Up" Scrolling Wheel, as far as I'm aware ALL use the same software to "Mediate" the inputs? I'm guessing here, but probably those options of "Universal Scroll" and "Auto Scroll" may also be offered on most if not all Logitech Mice? If so then this may be a problem for more potential Orphalese users?...

If this is so then I'm not quite sure what can be done about it, other than testing the actual outputs of the Logitech "Set Point" software and comparing it with bare inputs from other mice... I'm not sure if you can do this? Do you have any info on this?

I Hope these thoughts help resolve this...

Regards
MysticEast

P.S. If this does prove to be the case I would very much like to know, so that I can do a relevant complaint to Logitech about "naughty" software not simulating the mouse inputs correctly.........

P.P.S. I just checked and the SetPoint software says its is up to date, at Control Center Version 6.67.83 and Driver Version 5.90.41

OK, it sounds like there is more than one issue that could stop the mouse wheel working for the pop-up notes. I think the only real solution will be to have a scrollbar as well. It means I will have to change the behavior of the notes a bit because at the moment they disappear as soon as the mouse leaves the card, which of course would happen if the mouse tried to go onto the note itself. So the notes will be more like regular solid forms and less like ghostly pop-ups but at least it should work for everyone. I will let you know when there is something to look at.

Hi, Richard,
I hope you don't have to do that!

The behaviour of the Notes Pop Up has always been "Legendary", "Slick", Very Nice! (except when not working...) That's the reason I wanted them back. The solution you suggest here, with an extra mouse movement onto the actual Notes Pop Up itself, would spoil things. It would be a great shame! I for one do not want to be the one to force that change on everybody...

I suggest taking your time on this one, to see if another better solution presents itself... I hope it does. Personally I would be willing to be patient and wait, in hope that the "Legendary" version of the Pop Up notes can continue! - I can access the full notes via the Reading Saving Dialogue after all.

Hi Again,
Perhaps this might help..
I noticed a strange anomaly with the Pop Up Note for the "Spread Notes". Both in the previous version and this new 10.1.1.4 I've noticed the following:-

While the Spread Note does not Scroll either, if I clicked on the Parked Deck, thus un-parking it, but BEFORE moving the mouse off the Deck Park, I scroll, those Spread Notes scrolled beautifully as before. However as soon as I move the mouse off the Deck Park, even if I move the mouse back to get the Spread Notes again, NOW they don't scroll any more. I can only get that scrolling note back if I re-park that Deck, click on it and scroll, while the mouse stays on the Deck Park....

Sorry I hadn't included this detail in my previous report, because I hoped it would be fixed with the rest, but perhaps it might show what's happening and help to solve the issue?? This is consistent behaviour, it happens evey time I've tried it.

Living in hope
MysticEast

P.S. I can't help having the "gut feeling" that Microsoft with their attempt to foist their new "Tablet" ways of interaction on everybody even if they wern't using a tablet, is the root cause of these problems with scrolling...
