Version 9.4 Released

Post by Programmer »

I have just released the first cut of this summer's new version. Here are the new features in contains:

There is a new default method of shuffling, which is that shuffling carries on until the user clicks the deck again signalling the program to stop. The idea is to give the user more control. If a seed has been used for the shuffle the decks is shuffled repeatedly using the same seed. You can go back to the previous behaviour through the Options form.

The program allows multiple instances to run at the same time if you mark that option on the Options form.

There is another new options of "Always shuffle before dealing a spread". Combined with the previously mentioned feature of continuous shuffling this means you can select a spread at which point the deck starts to shuffle. With another click on the deck the chosen spread is displayed with the cards as they are at that instant in the shuffle.

A new tool lets the user vary the amount of transparency on the deck parking square and the various arrow controls on the deck.

The missing graphics have been added to the Spread and Card note wizards.

There is now a function key to toggle between face up and face down in Free Selection Mode - it is Control + U.

Spreads and Pop-up notes that are shared can now be associated with a language, so you can search for results in the language you prefer. I have done my best to update the existing the Spreads and Notes with the correct languages.

...There will almost certainly be a new release along before the end of the summer with any bug fixes that get reported so please download the new version and post any feedback here. The one-click installation link is here: http://www.orphalese.net/downloads/clic ... pgrade.exe

A quick update on the small revisions I have made since releasing this version:

9.4.1.1 - Original release
9.4.1.2 - After dealing a spread the deck was showing the top card (instead of the back of the top card) - Fixed.
9.4.1.3 - There was a problem with some spreads in the spread creation wizard which meant that when edited they did not display properly (they were really long and stretched out like something in a hall of mirrors). This is now fixed.

I'm having problems and don't know what's happened. My mouse will not scroll through the data notes, when it's over a card and even though I have tried installing the upgrade, my add/remove program is missing Orphalese, and the version I'm running is still 9.3.1.7, so I'm a bit perplexed. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and have no idea if that has had an effect on the program. Help is much appreciated.

Hi Carol,

I have Windows 10 on my laptop so I was able to take a look at this, it seems the configuration of the mouse wheel requires a bit of tweaking. I took the following steps to make it work:

In the "Search the web and Windows" box type 'Mouse'.

Click "Mouse and Touchpad Settings".

In devices highlight 'mouse and touchpad' settings if not already selected.

Find the option "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" and turn it off.

This fixed the issue for me.

As far as the program not showing in the Add Remove programs list (or "Apps and Features" as it is called now), I am not sure about that as it is showing in my list. The only thing I noticed is that for some reason it is not showing the usual Orphalese Tarot Icon, just the default program icon, so maybe you overlooked it if you were looking under for the icon rather than the name? If it is not that then it sounds like Windows Installer has got confused about what is installed and what isn't. There used to be a Windows Installer repair utility you could download from Microsoft to completely remove a program even when it wasn't in the list. I am not sure if that has changed under Windows 10.

Thank you for your reply, and after some many frustrating attempts I finally found it, phew, ^o) what a bit of a belly ache that's been. I still don't know about the other issue yet, for some reason the pc is playing me and I'm this close to uninstalling windows 10 :( but maybe it's just me. I'm usually fairly good with some technical stuff, and I've learnt by mistakes in the past what to do 8-| and have my son on speed dial in case it's something I can't deal with, :-) but as he doesn't use this program I couldn't ask him for help on it. But thank you again, programming has returned to normal, yay, lol.

Hi,
I'm using 9.4.1.6
In a reading this morning with a deck with long notes I noticed that the Notes Pop Up has lost scrollability, so only part of the notes were accessible. To check I recorded the reading. The notes were all there in the Reading Wizard. Then on saving that I went to that reading and in that view the Notes Pop Up still did not scroll.

Clearly something that you'll want to fix.

This issue makes me think of one other thing:

If I had access to the previous version (unwisely I had allowed the new version to overwrite the old) I would probably go back to the previous version to get the notes back. As it is I will either have to wait on you, or go to a much older version that I do have on a backup disk.

Would it not be nice to have access to the previous version, on the Dowload Page, for just such eventualities?
Indeed would it not be nice if the downloaded exe file was named with the version number ( eg xxxxxx9.4.1.6.exe or xxxxxx9p4p1p6.exe)?

I think I will get into the habit of naming the file like that, when downloading it, so as not to be faced with this.

Just in case this helps find where the fault is I just noticed that scrolling no longer happens in Spreads either.

I was using a Spread with a long explanation, which appears as a Pop Up over the Deck. This one doesn't scroll either.

My mouse hasn't lost functionality. It still scrolls in all other Programs which allow it. For example in the "About" command on the Deck, the Deck Description pops up as well a Program Number. If I click in that area, my mouse still correctly scrolls that text! So it's not my mouse... Must be the Big Cat (programmer) wot dunit!

Hmmm....I changed the way the scrolling works because Carol pointed out that it was no longer working in Windows 10. Actually it does work in Windows 10 if you change a couple of settings, but I wanted to fix it so that it would work for anyone.

I think that now it will scroll if the card has the focus, i.e. if you click on the card, then mouse over it so the notes show, then scroll it will work. I must have been doing that anyway while I was testing so I didn't realize it wouldn't work otherwise. Could you check if this is the case and let me know?

Hi Richard,
yes I am a Windows 7 Holdout, so far. It was the first version of Windows that I really liked for a long time, so why did they have to go and change it?? (just for profit? or was it to make sure that the user couldn't secure their machine against Advertising and US Government Secret Agencies?)

But no I tried what you suggest, selecting the card and then scrolling. Selecting the Card then going off it and coming back and scrolling. Nothing worked. No Scrolling of the Notes!

I hope you will fix this for us users of Windows 7, since there seems quite a fair bit of life still left in the old dog yet.

P.S. is there any chance I can get my hands on the previous version, till you've worked on it?
