Scary Looking Message from Windows before Downloading

Post by Programmer »

Every couple of years my code signing certificate is due for renewal and the company I use for these purposes is always good enough to remind me a few days beforehand. Unfortunately the process of validation and generation of the certificate usually takes several weeks, during which time you get a very scary looking message from Windows if you try to install the program with an out of date certificate. In fact Windows 8 blocks you altogether to begin with, you have to look around for the options button and tick something that says "I am completely reckless and don't care what happens to my computer" before it lets you download.

Nevertheless it is actually the same program that has been available to download since 2014 and is completely safe. If the messages leave you too unsettled please come back to the site in a week or so and hopefully I will have a new certificate and once again you will see the friendly message telling you that the program has been signed by Richard Jefferies.

Thanks to all users and prospective users for their forbearance.

Resolved: I got my new certificate issued today and I have recertified all the program files. I haven't done the same with the other installable files (tarot decks etc.) but will do so as I get the time over the next few days.
