Popup Card Meanings won't scroll

Hi! I use Orphalese on a laptop and have the card meanings appear when the mouse pointer hovers over a card. Unfortunately, the card meanings won't scroll up or down. I use the laptop's mouse pad to scroll and on screen the mouse pointer changes to the scroll symbol but the card meaning text doesn't move. Any ideas?

Hi, Mavis. It doesn't completely surprise me to hear this problem can arise on a laptop, I have come across similar issues with the arrow keys. It seems that sometimes the messages that the program receives about the user's input don't always map very well to those it would receive on a desktop machine. I have made a note to look at it the next time I do some work on the program, but that might not be for several months. In the meantime the most practical workaround that I can think of (assuming it is not practical to plug in a USB mouse) is to open the editing window for the card notes by going Main Menu >> Pop-up Notes >> Edit. This opens a window with conventional text areas with scroll bars that should respond in the normal way. There is also an option you can check at the bottom of that form, which is "Let me edit the card I click on". With this checked you can quickly get to see the notes for any of the cards my clicking on them. To avoid too much happening on the screen you could also select the option to suppress pop-up, as you won't actually need to have them appear if you have the edit window open. You can do this from Main Menu >> Pop-up Notes >> Toggle Mode >> Suppress Pop-ups. Hope this helps to some extent.

Happy New Year!
After updating to the latest version (to date), there is still no joy with Orphalese Tarot being able to handle scrolling in the popups. As the majority of computers are now laptops, is there any hope of getting it to handle input from touchpads? To be honest, I don't use my laptop on a table or so a USB mouse is out of the question. It's disappointing because some of the Spread Notes and LWB notes I created won't fit in the space provided.

Is there any hope?

Hi Mavis,

I think it might be less to do with it being a laptop and more to do with the default mouse settings being different in Windows 10. If you go into Control Panel >> Devices >> Mouse and Touchpad you should find a setting called "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them". Do you have that checked? It would need to be checked for the notes to scroll properly (this used to be the default on previous versions of Windows). Please let me know if that fixes it.

Dear Sir,

I am using Windows 8.1 on an ASUS Netbook but with a wireless mouse. I was having the same scrolling issue (notes will not scroll) and thought I would share my experience. The "mouse" icon appears in the pop-up notes, but my notes are long and do not all appear in the window. Interestingly, if I click the card to show the back, the notes scroll properly. If I click again to show the face of the card, the notes will not scroll. Unfortunately, I could not find a trick to allow me to scroll the spread explanation window. So I can get the card pop-up notes to scroll if I turn over the card to show the back, but I still cannot get the spread name/notes pop-up to scroll.

Thanks everyone for their comments on this issue. I think I have managed to fix at least one thing that might have been causing this, and I just uploaded a new version (10.1.2.2) so it would be great to know if this has done the trick. It is to do with scrolling only happening on the active window, which explains why David reversing the card would start the scrolling working - clicking on the card was activating the window which had otherwise lost focus to the pop-up message itself. If this fix works it should hopefully mean there is no need to change any Windows settings either. Anyway, please let me know when you have a chance to try out the new version. Thanks.

I tried several spreads and the scrolling seems to work nicely on all of them.

Thanks for confirming that. I'll wait for some feedback from other people who had this problem before I'll be completely happy that it's solved, it may be that there was more than one issue involved here...

It looks like I spoke too soon because I discovered an issue with the previous fix in version 10.1.2.2. Activating the card to make sure it got the scroll event was not a good solution at all because it meant that the card you hover your mouse over was always coming to the front and sitting on top of any cards that overlapped it. I didn't notice this because when I programmed it I was using a spread with three cards none of which overlapped.

Fortunately though I have found another way of making sure the card in question always gets the scroll event without having to activate the card and bring it to the front. I have just uploaded this version, it is version 10.1.3. I hope this really is the definitive fix to the scrolling notes issue!

just to confirm for you I've just installed 10.1.3.1 and scrolling the notes now seems to work fine for me.
(Laptop with Win 7 and a Mouse)

Thanks for fixing this bug as it really was important to me - I had even stopped using the program for a while...
When I checked back here it was actually great to see that I hadn't been the only one!
