Image Rendering in RTF

Post by baydar123 »

Dear Richard,

Just a question about the image rendering in the RTF function. The images have a grey border on the left and right and I was wondering why? Is there a way to remove the grey border so that only the card image displays? When I print I am using more ink and I personally prefer just the image of the card. It is a minor issue, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks,

David

I vaguely remember putting the grey border there way back then because I thought it looked neat. I don't think you are the first person who said they didn't like it or didn't see the point of it so I will remove it in the next version.

Thank you for the reply. However, now I am feeling a bit of regret. I agree the border does set off the card more. In reality it is "in the eye of the beholder" and some people may like it more than others. I suppose it would be more work that it is worth to have an option for a border. It is simply my preference not to have one. And again I am appreciative of your consideration in this.

Also, if there is any work I can do to help you out with editing, proofing, or something else for this site, let me know. I am just getting into Tarot (and Astrology) and through my study hope to develop skill and intutive abilites. I am not a programmer and only have intermediate computer skills and while I did do some web design, it was very limited. I tried working with Adobe Dreaweaver and Photoshop, but it proved more difficult than I had imagined and discontinued my studies of those programs. But I can read and write a bit :-)

Thanks again for keeping Orphalese Tarot updated, for the deck exchange, and for this forum.

You are right, an option to show the border or not would be the best thing. I sometimes think that the whole reading thing is a bit clunky and it might be better to not have the wizard at all - i.e. you would edit the card positions just by moving them around, and there could be a way of editing the reading notes directly in the pop-up bubble.

It is very nice of you to offer to help but it is not really that kind of project, or perhaps I just don't like working that way. I think it would be more stressful trying to co-ordinate people to help than just doing things myself (even though I admit I am kind of slow to get around to things!).

OK, version 9.3 which I just uploaded lets you choose about that. One thing I hadn't realised though is that the border was also related to scaling the image. If you uncheck the option to add the border (which you will find on the options form) the images will appear exactly as they are on file, as if you had browsed for them and inserted them directly into the document.

Thanks for all the changes.

I recently downloaded the new version and read your update memo on all the changes. When I ran the RTF function it defaulted to no border. But for the life of me I could not find where the option is to turn the border on or off. I probably looked right past it. You metioned "options form" but I am not sure what that is. I checked the Options screen with the univeral options and deck options as well as the RTF screen where it has the check box for "Include images". It defaults to my preference (no borders), but I figured I should know where to find the option if it ever changes.

Also, I noticed that after the update, when I acces the "Wizard" options (for spreads or readings) the graphics no longer appear next to the available options. It is like the link is broken - they are just blank squares. It is a minor issue, but thought I would advise you.

The relevant option to check is in the universal options part of the options form on the tab marked Program(1), right at the bottom. It is labelled as "Use scaled images in RTF reading documents".

Thanks for pointing out those missing graphics - not sure what happened there! I will make a note to put them back in the next version.

Got it! Thanks.

I noticed now that you fully removed the gray border and made it transparent. I initially thought you either had the gray border or no border. The scaled version has a transparent border now (which also keeps text from wrapping to close to the image), and allows different sizes of cards to maintain a consistent size when inserted. Or, if you disable the scaling feature, you could have a higher resolution image that may initially be larger but you can then adjust its size in the text.

So, what you have now is the best in my opinion.

Thanks again,

David
