Hi All:
This is just to testify that I'm sending this message from OT Beta 8 version, running under Windows Vista 33 bits and everything seems to work just fine for me. While typing, I'm having a look to the Sharing tool, and I'm seeing and receiving decks w/o hassle. When we will go RTM, Richard? Best.

Beta 8 So Far...
Hi Dominatrix,
The plan is to bring out the next version of the beta this weekend. This will feature:
1) The elegant splash screen you sent me.
2) Faster initial connection when receiving previews. At the moment the first time you request a preview from any given user takes about 25 seconds. This can be substantially reduced.
3) Better control of who is logged on. When someone turns off their machine it should send a message to the server so they are removed from the logged on list, which in turn should make their decks disappear from the deck list. At the moment this is not happening, which is why several times a preview request will fail. It isn't until some tries and fails to contact the other user that the list is updated.
4) Better insulation from the whole P2P proces for users who don't want to take part, or find it causes them problems. If you don't have any shared decks then the program should behave as if the P2P tool were not even there. I need to tighten a couple of things up to achieve this.
...After that, all going well, I would like to release version 8.0 into the wild around the start of next month, i.e. to co-incide with Easter.
Cheers,
Richard

Got a question. I'm cleaning up all my decks and moving things around. I hadn't added that many so I just removed them... but it did make me wonder. If you share a deck and then move where it's located on your computer, will the deck share find it, or will you somehow be notified that it wasn't found so you can re-share it?
Also, when I had played around before there was a way to not included the deck notes. I'm not seeing that option anymore. Are they automatically being shared? or not?
Thanks!
Shari

Tarot 8 Share Feature Request. Is there any way to get the size of the card file when your previewing it? This would give you an idea of how large the deck is size wise. For anyone on dial-up if there are 3 decks being shared that are the same, this would let them pick by size. And then let the people on high speed choose the larger.

Hi Shari,
When you add a deck to your Shared list it gets zipped up, and a copy is made of the 00 card to use as a preview. These are placed in a hidden folder called For Sharing. So you can move or even deleted the deck and it won't make any difference to its availability.
Having the size field makes sense, I am sure it will make its way in there eventually. At the moment there is a ten minute time-out on the transfers, so if you have a dial up connection you would obviously want to avoid trying to grab any large deck if a smaller one was available. On the subject, I would add that anyone using a dial-up connection should definitely refrain from sharing. Given that upload speeds are only a small fraction of download speeds, and dial-up users are unlikely to be connected for any length of time, this would only lead to frustration for other users.
Cheers,
Richard
