Orphalese Deck Server Error Reporting

Post by Wubble »

Hi

My number one buf/error is that when I click on Fine Tune my settings I get a blank box appear with no settings.

I assume this is where I'll be able to configure the client to get more than 50 results when it searches.

Also there seesm to be a latency issue with some deck previews coming faster than others.

I'm sure this is down to the filesizes of the individual image files but it may be a good idea to put soem form of speed latency detection in there.

My OS is WinXp SP2

Ta!

Hi Wubble,

Thanks for posting here with your feedback. As specific bugs and problems are identified we can create threads to deal with each one separately.

It seems sensible to have some sort of limit, because eventually a search might return thousands of results. Either this will be configurable or there will be some sort of advanced search similar to the Google advanced image search, where you can specify type of deck, number of cards etc, a safe search which filters out adult themed decks etc. I can see that it would also be good to have a Next 50 button, so you can keep searching through the decks until you find one that you are looking for.

The different speeds depends on the other user's connection, and also on the configuration of any intervening firewalls. I agree it would be good to have some sort of progress counter on downloads, or warn of possible slow decks, but this would involve sending the file as a stream rather than in one go. The problem with doing this is that most routers now recognise file streams as being generated by file sharing networks, and they are a assigned a much lower priority. So the progress bar would come at the price of the whole transfer taking much longer.

Did you try adding any decks to share from your own collection yet? Dominatrix reported a couple of small bugs doing that so it would be interesting to get some more feedback on that one.

Cheers,
Richard

Regarding Adding My Decks

All I can say is I've moved my default folder from Share app back the the Tarot app and that process went smoothly.

I've added less than 10 decks and had no problems. Wish list would be to add more than one at a time.

But no other real bugs aside from the fine tune my settings at the moment.

At this moment in time, I've been unable to reproduce the JIT glitch observed when I add a lot of decks and I do it quickly. As Wubble69, I get an empty windows when I select Finetune Settings. I saw the window on the first accesses to the program, the value on the box was 35 if I'm not wrong.

For the moment, Richard and I are the P2P users who spend the most time with service and sharing active. Sometimes you request a deck and get negative answer: that means the user who's sharing the deck is not connected. I can speak for Richard, but in my case, normally the PC is closed on the mornings, when I'm at the office, and switched on most evenings if I'm working at home.

Download priority and speed is OK for me now. I'm used to get MUCH bigger files thru the net, dunno when a lot of users are connected, but tests until now have been satifactory. Best.

Hi Wubble,

Just to confirm, when you talk about the default folder, are you talking about the For Sharing folder in the Orphalese Share directory? If so, I guess this is because you didn't actually have any decks that you want to make available for sharing and you were just doing it for test purposes as requested (for which, thanks!).

:) Ok I'll have to explain my setup.

Pre installing the p2p client I had less than 10 decks available in the tarot program.

However I had a sizable amount of other decks stored of somewhere else on my machine.

I don't use these and as I'm a userbility nerd I don't like seeing things I dont use in my applications.

However I understand that others may like these so I was prepared to put them all up for sharing.

Anyways.. I digress.

I installed the psp client and saw the packs folder and copied all these decks I don't use in there.

I then opened the tarot program and saw all the decks I didn't want to see and not the decks I wanted to see.

That's when I went and changed the deck location path in the tarot programme options.

So for the moment what I have available (I assume) to see are the decks I use day to day. I'll leave my p2p client running all day today (UK) time. I search for the word Endora should get a result.

And yes I do own a real life Madame Endora deck :D

I really should proofread what I type. Where I type psp I mean p2p.

Thanks for clarifying that. In my eagerness to get some feedback on the application I didn't actually explain how to use it (doh!). At the weekend I am going to publish some proper instructions, but in the meantime here's a bit of clarification on how to add decks for sharing:

The only way to add decks is through the interface, specifically through the second button on the toolbar showing the Sun card with the small refresh arrows, which I think is what you did first of all.

When you add a deck here it does three things:

1) It updates the ShareData xml file in the For Sharing folder in the Orphalese Share directory. The decks listed in here are the ones that appear on the list that other people see as being available.

2) It zips up the deck and adds it to the For Sharing folder.

3) It creates a thumbnail of the 0 card and adds it to For SharingThumbs.

So in fact there is not necessarily any connection between the decks in the For Sharing folder and the decks you see when you use the program. You can keep your OT My Decks list nice and uncluttered in general. There is one exception to this: when you actually edit the list in the Orphalese Share program. This is because it only lets you pick from your regular Orphalese decks. So you would have to temporarily put your less favourite decks in with your Orphalese decks while you build up your share list, but then you could take them out and put them wherever. I hope this explains it, I have to admit that explaining things is not my forte :)

To summarise, in order to confirm that you are sharing decks correctly you need to confirm that:

1) The decks are in the list which appears when you click on the Sun card icon.

2) The corresponding zip file exists in the For Sharing folder.

3) The corresponding image file exists in the thumbs folder.

At the weekend I am going to simplify this by hiding a lot of the inner workings and only providing the interface itself as a means of sharing and unsharing decks.

Cheers,
Richard
