Some suggestions

Post by coredil »

Hello Programmer,

I really love your programm .-)
And always, when you begin to spend hours and hours with a programm you beginn to think about one or two ... or three little things that you find could be better.
So here some suggestions:

1. When choosing a new deck, could it be possible to show the decklist over 2 or 3 or more columns rather than only one column.
When you have many decks it can take a long time to scrolldown!

2. I would like more keys for preferred decks

3. I find the compare window fantastic.
And it would be so nice if it was possible there to zoom the cards in order to better compare.
(I know that it is already possible when you add for example a second deck on the main window, but this feature would be wonderful within the compare window)

4. One more thing about the compare decks windows: it would be much more comfortable to be able to choose the cards you want to compare on the same window where you can see the cards.

5. I dont know if its a bug or only my system but some general settings do not seem to work.
For example when I open a new deck it is not sorted though according to the general settings it should be.

Thanks for your work .-)

I can't help with numbers 2 thru 5, but number 1 is easy to deal with. Just arrange your decks into subfolders, either using the Deck Management Utility or by using Windows Explorer when OT isn't running.

I have so many decks it's impossible to keep them all together. I use one folder for Antique decks, another for different color versions of Waite-Smith decks, another for nonTarot decks (which itself is subdivided into Oracles like I-Ching, Lenormand, etc, Runes, regular playing cards, different number systems like Egypcios Kier or Mantegna or Symbolon, etc.)

I divide my full sized Tarot decks into alphabetical chunks. Exx: Full Decks A, Full Decks N - O, Full Decks Tarot of, Full Decks T, etc. As any one folder gets too many decks in it, I subdivide again, making sure that no single chunk is so large that all the decks within it don't fit on the screen when the folder is opened.

I keep my Trumps Only decks in separate subfolders, also alphabetized, exx: Trumps Only A - E, Trumps Only F - M, etc.

So I never have to scroll up or down, and all decks are organized.

Hope that helps

Hi Gisela,

thanks for the very easy and very practical tip.
I already follow it, made alphabetical folders and suddenly everything is ... well everything is ok .-))

@ Programmer: I really should have turned my tongue seven times in my mouth before posting .-)
so forget point 1 of my suggestions.

Best regards

Hi Coredil,

I would like to have more keys for preferred decks too, it is there somewhere on my list of things to add to the program. I can see the advantage of seeing the cards in the compare cards window while picking them, too. Maybe I could add a preview pane or something. The situation at the moment though is I am limiting myself to fixing all the bugs in the program as it stands, rather than adding new features, but as I say I have made a note of the ideas.

Re the sorting, can you try it again? For me it seems to work.

Finally (and you may very well be aware of this) the compare cards window can be maximized. This resizes all the cards it features, so it gives you some limited sort of zoom, although perhaps not what you were really after.

Best,

Hi Richard,

Here is my pie in the sky, when you have nothing better to do request:

What I would like to see in the Deck listing is whether the pack contains card notes or not. At the moment, I have duplicate sub-folders for all of my decks. Those with notes, those without. So I've done the job manually, however, there is a bit of duplication.

If those with card notes were somehow highlighted in the list (either by appearing bold or with an * for example,) this would be helpful. I was thinking you could do a search for the CardData.xml file size and perhaps have it automatically display the different formatting.

I know I could rename those decks to add an * but it gets a bit cumbersome to have to do it manually and would be more efficient if it was an automatic process.

Not hugely important but thought I'd throw it in the ring.

Hi Scorp,

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions - it is always welcome as you know.

I think it would be quite straightfoward to do this, but I am not really convinced it is necessary. The reason is that I don't quite see why you would need two copies of each deck. If it is simply to view them with or without notes, did you know that you can use the F8 key to turn them on and off (or check/uncheck Popup Notes on the main menu, which amounts to the same thing)?

Is there another reason for having two sets of decks? - if so I will try and find a workaround for it, because it seems a bit wasteful in terms of disk space.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

I hope this doesn't post twice as I had problems posting it this morning.

I mustn't have made mysElf clear.

What I meant to say is that I want to list all of my Tarot decks in the one folder. Some of them have notes, some don't. I wanted the ones that had notes to be highlighted.

I don't duplicate the decks themsElves. It is the folder structure that is duplicated. I have a folder for all decks with notes and a different folder for all decks without notes. But I then have to remember which folder to open to get the deck I want. That's why I want to put all Tarot decks in the one folder.

Does that makes sense?

Thanks,

Hi Purple

Ok, I see what you mean now and I have made a note of the suggestion. I think it might be neatest to have a slightly different icon for decks which contain notes.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

An icon would be great! While you have your list out and your pencil sharpened, here's another suggestion along the same lines. It would be fantastic if we could select to just use the Majors from a tarot deck. I know of one deck in particular in which the Majors are very Oracle-like and the Minors are identical, with the exception of their keyword (very boring!).

I was going to duplicate the deck and remove the minors from the second copy but it would be nicer if we could select this feature on the fly.
