I am unable to switch deck in middle of reading. My deck of choice is the Master Tarot and in order to switch to a different deck for a comparision reading the current deck (usually master tarot) refuses to allow the selected deck to appear. A workaround I found was to rename the offending deck folder with the .bak extension and then I am able to switch decks in the middle of my reading.
How do you mean it won't let you? I am guessing you mean that you see that message which says something like "Collect cards now?" This message appears when some of the cards which are out of the deck don't exist in the new one that you want to switch to, it being a smaller deck. If the new deck is the same size or bigger then the message does not appear and the cards are left out. Also if the new deck is smaller, but the cards which are out belong to both decks, then the message won't appear either. It only appears when the program has no choice but to collect the cards.
Sorry if I have misunderstood what is happening. If you think there is a bug in the program which is stopping you from switching then is it accompanied by any error message?
No, no message Richard, simply need to use the*.bak extension for orphalese\orphalese tarot\packs\MASTER TAROT.bak, without the *.bak extension I can only use one deck at a time when I try to switch to anything else the deck just reverts back to the master tarot again.
This is certainly mysterious. I would guess there is no significance in the ".bak" extension per se. If you changed it to ".foo" it would probably have the same effect, right? Certainly the letters "bak" don't mean anything in terms of the program, they are just three letters that are conventionally used to name various kinds of backup files.
When you say the deck reverts back to the Master Tarot, does it revert back straight away? I am trying to visualise what happens. You choose another deck, it appears for a second, but then it changes straight back to the Master Tarot? Or does it only revert back when you do some particular action?
I am wondering what might be special about this deck. Is it your default start deck (which you can set in the Options form)?
No the deck only reverts back to the master tarot only when I try to do a celtic cross spread. It is also my default deck. Strangely, the extension seems the only way I can use another deck in the middle of a reading. I agree that the *.bak could be anything really. This is very frustrating. as I like things to work as designed, and this is not necessarily doing that.
One of the options you can set for a spread is to associate it with a particular deck. That way, whenever you deal out the spread the program loads up that deck. If you go into the Spread Creation Wizard and edit the Celtic Cross, you will probably find that the "Switch to Deck" box is cheked and the associated deck is the Master Tarot. Just uncheck this box to remove the association.
I should have realised this was it before, but it is a couple of years since I added that feature and I had forgotten about it. I think it was originally requested because some spreads are specifically designed with particular decks in mind.
