Gilded Tarot

Post by Don »

I uploaded images and card spec's for the Gilded Tarot. The spec's are mine and not those in the book. You will have to create your own folder to put them in - in your OTZ 'Packs' folder since I still haven't mastered creating folders in WinZip. The images came out pretty good.

Hi Don,

Thanks for the upload, the images are very rich and eye-catching as you say.

As far as the WinZip thing goes, as far as I know when you receive a zip file it is impossible to determine the folder structure until you unzip it, so half the time you either create a folder unnecessarily and have a folder in another folder, or you choose unzip to here and it turns out all the images are loose. I am really surprised they haven't fixed this obvious design flaw. Or perhaps I am missing something that someone will point it out to me?

Zipping a set of cards up with their folder is easy though: you just go up one level in Explorer, right click on the folder itself and add that to winzip, instead of selecting the cards themselves.

At some point I might bring the deck upload into the program: the user browses for a deck in their collection and chooses it for upload. Then the tarot program itself takes care of zipping and uploading it. Downloads would work in a similar way: the program unzips and then refreshes the user's menu, so the deck is ready for use straight away, ie a bit like the way spread files work now.

I like this idea but there are more pressing things, like bugs with the existing functionality. In the meantime I am thinking of adding some guidelines for deck uploads, and this is obviously something that would be useful to include. If we all agree on one convention for how we treat zip files we can avoid the scenarios I just mentioned. I will post about this separately.

Thanks again!

Richard

Um, interesting, I'm having myself some of this trouble with WinZip. Let me think about a Card Compression tutorial and the guideline thing. Best.

Hi Don!

Thanks for the deck and for the notes. I know about the extra effort it takes to write the notes.

Love,
Aurora
