P2P Sharing

Post by Shylynx »

G'day all!

Haven't been online for a while (due to bad health.) Just recently got back into the swing of things with Orphalese and P2P sharing and noticed something odd today. I've recently reinstalled the program on my computer and haven't even set up the deck-sharing option when I noticed that some decks were being shared on the system under my screen name (Shylynx.) ??? How can this be!? I haven't enabled any decks from my collection to be share yet!!! If you log into the P2P and check under the "Shared by" column, you'll notice some that bear my name. Computer glitch or poseur!? Kinda strange!! Just curious... Any input!?

When I tried to look at a deck you shared, it wouldn't connect. So you are not actually sharing those decks, the information is left over from before. To be honest, I'm not sure how that ever gets updated, it's something I've read about before, getting rid of all the deck shares that are not really being shared.

Not sure if this actually answers your question or not.

Hiya,

I can think of two ways this could happen. First of all, the "Shared By" field is just a text field that anyone who shares a deck can fill in how they like. So maybe someone reshared a deck that they had downloaded and wanted to credit you as the original sharer. I don't think this is very likely but it could happen technically.

The other more likely explanation is that you shared it originally using a different machine. The P2P Exchange recognises machines rather than users. When you log on to the exchange all the decks associated with your machine are "unshared", and then those in your shared list are added back in as being available. If you originally added it on a different machine, then re-registered the program on a new machine without unsharing the decks associated with the old computer, then they would remain on the server as "orphans". They should however become set to unavailable when anyone tries unsuccessfully to download them.

If this is not happening, or if there is any deck which is consistently unavailable even though it is in the list, then the best thing to do would be to leave a comment on the deck to that effect. That will help me identify them so I can work out why they are not disappearing from the list.

Cheers,
Richard

G'day all,

Thanks Shari and Richard. I think I know what happened... I recently changed computers (now using hubby's old one,) and I didn't de-registered the shared decks I had. I also remember having filled in the field that says "shared by" with my name. So a bit of both, I guess. I managed to download all the decks that said "shared by shylynx" so they're not orphans. Gives a new meaning to "self-service" though!! LOL!!! :D Anywho... It's no biggy! Cheers everyone!
