Deck Exchange Server Moved To New Location

Post by Programmer »

A few days ago I had an email from the ISP which hosts the Deck Exchange server, http://www.hosted.co.uk, to let me know that they had gone out of business. They warned me that they would soon be shutting the server down, but were not able to give me an exact date. I was hoping it would not be so soon, so I could make a seamless transition from the old server to a new one, but from what I can gather it was switched off last night. The Deck Exchange has been unavailable since, and won't be unavailable until I can get the service up and running on a new winbox.

When you try to connect to the exchange you will see that the spinning globe icon spins, but spin as it may the server is never found. The search button never becomes enabled and no decks ever appear.

I hope you will all bear with me while I try to find another company to host the service. After that I will need some time to configure the machine before I can resume testing the new style DE features of version 8.4. I hope this won't be too long though - please check back to find out, or simply subscribe to this thread by clicking on the "Subscribe Topic" link at the bottom of the page. That way you will receive an email notification when I post back on it. Thanks.

Sorry to hear of this Richard, I have just posted a report in the bugs forum concerning this issue. Now I know what it is I can have my previous post closed and wait for a new server to be found, many thanks for letting us know. ;)

Kind regards

Hi Richard,

boah, that's really a mess! :-#

What do you guess, how long will it last, until the Deck Exchange is working again?

Well Baphomet, I was hoping to be able to make a lot of progress this weekend, and even to have something working again in the beta, but things haven't gone as quickly as I hoped.

I do have a server now anyway. It is a "virtual server", i.e. an instance of Windows Server 2003 on some partition of a computer. It is a good compromise between just renting space on a normal shared server (which basically I can't do because the Deck Exchange requires making configurations that those packages don't include), and having a proper dedicated server which is too expensive.

Well, I have never configured a web server before so it is taking a little bit of time to connect remotely and do that, and also I have been waiting on a couple of support issues, and it is the weekend so these things take longer.

The problem is that next weekend I am away, so it might be the weekend after that (17, 18 November) before I get the time to finish it off. I will keep people posted on this thread, hopefully it won't be that long.

Cheers,
Richard

I am happy to say that the beta edition I just uploaded (8.4.0.6 on the 9 November) contains a working DE, hosted on the new server. Please see the post about the beta for more details!!
