Hi Richard! Is it okay to....

Post by Marvin »

Hi,

I have the B&W Vachetta Tarot that I would like to upload to share with anyone who would like to color it. The problem is that it's 8 mg. Cowhead suggested that I upload it in two parts. Is this okay with you? With the rapid increase in the Deck Exchange, I don't want to start putting a lot of multiple files in it. If it's not okay, I'll ask Dominatrix if He can set up an email account at gmail just for big decks. That way we can have options.

Thanks,

Marvin

Hi Marvin,

There is no problem.

I have reduced the upload limit to 6 megs because it seems like a sensible maximum file size to me, given the pixel size of most peoples screens (1024 x 768 or less) and the price of memory and bandwidth for me. These things are always changing though, as we all know. Do you remember the scene in Blade Runner where he progressively zooms in on a digital photo until he is looking at a single sequin in perfect clarity? I am sure that given the exponential way that computer technology is evolving this will happen before long (and when that film came out digital photography was itself science-fiction).

In the meantime the limit is just what seemed to me like a good idea. Splitting the file seems like a good work-around for exceptional cases where for some reason or other a deck needs to be viewed in a lot of deail at high resolution.

Cheers,

Richard

Marvin,

Just as an afterthought, did you catch Dominatrix's post of about a week ago where he described using Irfanview to batch reduce file sizes and make sure all images in a deck are the same size?

If so it is worth digging out. Irfanview is free software which you can use to reduce an 8 meg deck to 3 megs in a few seconds, and at the same time make sure that all the images are the same size.

I will try to dig the post out and add it to the articles section.

Hi,

Yes I did see it in the list, but I don't think that I opened it. Last week is a little fuzzy, thankfully my doctor finally adjusted me diabetic meds.
I'll look it up!

Thanks,

Marvin

Just to say I added that post to the articles section, so you don't have to go trawling through all those old posts...
