File Exchange

Post by Greg the Yeti »

Hi,

I've only just got round to upgrading to the new program version (8.3.1.2) and have been checking things out. I like the new information about the size of the download in File Exchange. I also note that it seems to start up much faster than before. I also note that the '?' in the File Size column shows who has not yet upgraded and that about 1/3 of the files are from people who haven't upgraded yet. I wasn't the last to upgrade!

I have a suggestion for a future version of File Exchange.

The downloads are listed in pages which seem to be fixed in number of entries on each page. Thus you have to select the next page and browse up or back down to find if you need the next page etc. Now with my lovely new Logitech MX Revolution that's not so bad, the wheel can have you at the bottom in a fraction of a second. But you've got to click on the page first to be able to wheel it. AND personally I'd find it much more user friendly if the pages automatically adapted to the size of my screen and presented the right number of entries to just fill it. I.E no scroll bar needed, no wheel needed to browse.

I don't know how easy this would be in .NET but it would be 'Nice'.

Hi Greg,

Well, now that the new Forum has been set up my thoughts are turning again to the program. I want to make a set of changes to the program itself which include some of the things that people have requested, e.g. being able to establish collections or lists of installed decks which can be used for various purposes such as loading up the compare cards form with a pre-defined selection. Another thing I want to do is have it so you can include a background image with a deck, and that gets chosen by default when someone first loads that deck, and until they change it.

...Following on from this I want to add a couple more columns to the Deck Exchange: one to show if the deck contains a background, and one to show if the deck contains pack info. So if the DE is going to get wider, maybe it is not a bad idea if it gets a bit taller too :-) . It might be a bit complicated to have the program calculate the number of rows, because it would have to take into account font sizes etc, but I can make the number of rows returned by the search a configurable parameter and that way the user can work out the best number for themselves by trial and error.
