This is just to say that although Version 8.0 has now gone live, I would still really appreciate any feedback about the performance of the peer-to-peer deck exchange tool.
This is a new feature in Version 8, and although it has undergone a few months of testing I am aware that there are still some unresolved problems. If anyone is affected by these issues (broken connections, recieving a fail message on the connectivity test etc) it would be really helpful if they could post about it here or send me a message so I can try to follow up.
Specifically, I changed one thing in version 8.0.2 which I just uploaded this afternoon. This is that I have raised the timeout period for receiving decks from 10 minutes to 20 minutes. The question is, is the failure of some downloads the result of having insufficient time, or is it happening because some other network issue?
I would be interested to know if anyone manages to successfully receive a deck in the ten to twenty minute window before the new timeout occurs. This would suggest the former was the case. If it was a more fundamental problem then the download would be destined to fail from the start and no amount of additional time would change that. Any feedback is really appreciated
This is the technically challanged Samara here. although I have uploaded version 8, and read the page about P2P and the icons I should see, I see nothing! So sorry. I am obviously missing the obvious somehow. all I see is the same menu I always saw on the LHS of the page, boxes starting home page and ending my settings. NO icons.
Could someone with endless paitience and a sense of humour help me out here?
Off to stand in the corner again!!!
STOP, WAIT, I'VE FOUND IT!
Grovelling apologies, looking in the wrong place
Did say I wasn't very technical didn't I?
However I love TARot, so I hope you'll forgive?
Happy
Samara
I am glad you found it, Samara For anyone else who is lost, the tool can be found by choosing the File Exchange item off the main menu of the program itself (not the website). For regular users this is the first place they will look, because it is where the old Deck Exchange has been located for the last six months, but I was forgetting about newcommers - sorry!
Thanks! As you are familiar with everything that has gone back and forth in the last year you will understand how much this feels like we are turning a page, and what a great feeling it is to be moving forward again.
I have a lot of ideas for fine-tuning the peer-to-peer tool to make it more useful and efficient, such as building in a simple feedback mechanism, which will then enable the program to flag a visual clue as to which decks are more easily accessible and which often result in failed transmissions. But even allowing that there is room for improvement, I am pretty impressed myself with how well the tool is working - I have requested about 20 previews today, and downloaded three or four decks, without a single glitch
I finally installed the new OPT! Way cool, I must say!
Can we slip in some MP3s for the P2P??? LOL! We could call them..Meditation music. .o) (For your listening pleasure, hee hee heee!)
Excellent as usual, Richard! So wonderful to see OPT back on track and the program looking like a million bucks to boot!!!
Glad you are joining in the party! I do hope to extend the P2P tool to enable to cope with other files than just decks, such as e-books and, why not, meditation music. As far as the program looking like a million dollars, we have Dominatrix to thank for that of course.
I'm late in getting on board with the P2P but I'm finally here. Great work with the new version. I know this is something that you've been working toward for a long time. Congratulations in bringing it to completion. And great work Dominatrix on the images.
I haven't shared any of my own files yet, just downloaded one to checkout how the whole thing works. Am doing this from my dial-up connection at home....not sure if the exchange will be blocked by the firewall at work....or, if they will be able to detect the traffic if I run it there.
Just a few questions/points.....(and sorry not to have raised these through the beta stage but better late than never, hey?)
1. When downloading a deck, it shows a file transfer in progression message (or some similar words) but how do you know how long the transfer will take, or the size of the file you are downloading? A progression bar might help to show where the download is at. Is there a way we can view the properties of the file?
2. You have a next 50 decks link but not a previous 50 decks link which makes it a bit tricky to move up and down the list.
3. Can we tidy up the list a bit? I noticed there were some duplications (which I understand is multiple people uploading their version of the same deck). Some of these decks are listed under different variations of the same name. For example, it could say Marseilles Tarot, and then a bit further there is a Tarot of Marseilles. Do you think we should invoke some kind of deck name formatting so that duplicate versions of the same deck are at least kept together on the list? Were there filters to maybe just show all of the Oracle decks, for example (sorry I've not played enough to know if that is already available).
4. Will the administrators have access to complete some of the missing information such as the deck creator's name? And if so, what's the process to do this?
Um, that's all I can think of, off the top of my head. Will let you know if anything else comes to mind.
