New Beta 8 (March 11)

Post by Programmer »

Hi Testers,

This is an attempt to anticipate a likely questions about the new beta. If you log in today you will probably see that there are very few available decks.

This does not mean that your shared decks have disappeared or that they are no longer recognised. It just means that you need to install the new beta before they will become visible again to other users. You WON'T have to go through the process of adding them all over again. As soon as you upgrade you will see them again.

Cheers,

Hi Richard, great splash! Fixed my issue with connecting. However I can't get anything to unzip. The file is downloaded and installed. When you click OK I receive this error: UnzipFile: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: length

The file is on my computer. I can open the folder (XP) but I can't open any of the files, view them, copy them, or unzip the file. I do remember something like this happening in the old deckshare and if I downloaded verses installing into Orphalese I think it would let me unzip it. But to be honest I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly. I tried 3 decks including my own Spread Deck and tried on both my desktop (XP Pro) and laptop (XP Home), using both windows unzipper & 7-Zip.

Also have an additional request (LOL, do I ever stop) could you add a Deck type of Other my spread deck isn't really a Tarot, Cartomancy, or Oracle but a deck to use to display a spread. I think it has 10 cards.

Thanks for everything you do! I'm a testing :o)

Hi Shari,

Does it look like the zip file is complete - is it about the right size?

I've experienced the same problem Shari reported, including the error message and the impossibility of open the ZIP file even with an external program. The ZIP file seems to have the correct size, but it's incomplete or truncated. More testing in progresss. Best.

Yes the files are the correct size. I tried downloading and unzipping my own spread deck that I just shared and got the same error, I also tried on an deck shared previous to this version, same error. I then found my shared folder and copied the file out of it and tried unzipping and experienced the same error. I then zipped the deck myself and copied it into my shared folder, and from my laptop downloaded it, and it unzipped correctly. So it is somehow in the zipping process.

Hi Testers,

Thanks for all your feedback on this...I have been looking at it this evening and I just uploaded a new version of the beta, 8.0.0.4, which does not have this bug.

That is the good news, the bad news is that this bug has apparently been around since version 8.0.0.1, i.e. the first beta of the program itself and not the P2P tool as a stand-alone entity, or in other words the one that came out around the 20th of last month. This means that any decks that were added for sharing since then will basically consist of corrupted zip files and will need to be deleted and re-added. Sorry.

I have also noticed a couple of times I tried to get a preview and instead I got a message that no response had been received. Has anyone else had this? I was hoping to have pretty much seen the last of it, the target is to get to 100 successful requests. Bearing this in mind there will probably be another version of the beta next weekend when I figure out what is going wrong there. I am still optimistic of having a final roll-out ready by Easter though.

Cheers,
Richard
