Copying text to CardData

Post by Pathfinder »

Hi, I'm new to Orphalese Tarot & am finding it v. useful BUT is there anyway I can copy my word files containing notes on cards & readings to the CardData file for a particular deck, rather than having to type it all in again? Thanks, pathfinder

Hi Pathfinder,

I am glad you are finding the program useful. Re the specific question of the CardData file, there isn't any way to import it all in one operation, but you should be able to do it by copying and pasting the notes one card at a time rather than typing them all in again.

At the moment you have to deal and select a card to edit its notes, which I recognise is not very practical. I am planning to change the card editing mechanism soon to let the user cycle through the whole deck one card at a time without having to select anything or deal any cards. The next version will be 7.6, which is due out in a couple of weeks. I would like to get this card editing enhancement into version 7.6.1 which will come out about a month after that, i.e. towards the end of November. I just mention it in case you wanted to postpone importing you existing notes until that time.

Cheers

Yeah, what Richard said! :D

Till then, what I do is open up my data files where I have my original card discripts at, and open Orphalese Taraot Program, too.

I open up my deck to Free Selection.
One by one, I pull the card out of the deck and click on it.
I hit F6 which opens up one card's data file, at a time.

I HIGHLIGHT that card's discript from my data file, and PASTE IT into that popup, for that card, and CLICK SAVE,
It takes a long time, but its the only way to save the information within the CardData file I have found.

From what I have found, opening up the carddata.xml file cannot be changed. The above is the only way, I have discovered, working within the Windows 98, that I have!

Good luck!

Hi Richard, thanks very much for the help! I look forward to the next versions of Orphalese but in the meantime I'll do the 'copying & pastin' because the program is so useful I don't want to wait!!! Regards, pathfinder

Hi Pathfinder,
What I have done is using the card data file for the Traditional Tarot as a starting point I created a blank file with just keywords. I like to have my standard keyword for each card and then I copy and past in a text program right into the .xml file. this has worked the best for me. Also starting with the file from Traditional Tarot also means that while your working on adding all the notes you still have some type of meaning when a card is drawn.

I use HTMLPad to do this in, but notepad works just as well.

I have changed the carddata.xml files but I have Widows XP, however I wouldn't think that would make a difference....
