I would suggest not reinventing the wheel. There is good free software available for Forums, I recommend phpBB but there are others that are good too. I have maintained both phpBB and vBulletin (not free) forums and can help you with setup if you need. Here are some of my forums:
http://sinsdawn.ffproject.net/index.php (vBulletin)
http://ffwiki.ffproject.net/index.php (phpBB)
Lemme know if you need any help

Re: Suggestions
Hi Ren,
I have looked at forum software and I like the look of some of it. The trouble is that I don't have a dedicated server - just space on a shared server at my ISP, which means I can't install any software.
In the new version Tarot Zone/Website which I am working on at the moment I have changed the forum so that it is organised like the one on Aeclectic Tarot, which itself is organised in a similar way to the ffwiki link you sent.
In the future when I can afford to run a dedicated server I would like to install something like that, so this should help with the transition (as well as being closer to what new users might be used to). I might need to take you up on your offer of help with that when the time comes.
Cheers!
Richard

Re: Re: Suggestions
Weird!. I don't have a dedicated host but I can still install programs. All you need is 1 MySQL database, FTP access and access to chmod (permissions). phpBB can be obtained for free from phpBB.com. Why don't you double check with your host ?
If you still can't install it, I will be glad to host your forum for free for you you at my server, as thanks for the excellent tarot sw you let us download
I already host 2 other sites for friends. ffwiki.ffproject.net is one of them. My only caveat: I have little time to administer forums so I will help you set it up and give you hosting space, but you would have to take admin duties over from then on. Administration is pretty simple, even for people with no computer background, so I don't think a programmer like you will have any trouble.
Let me know

Hiya Ren,
OK thanks for letting me know that. I have a SQL server backend (ooo-er missus) so I am not too sure about mixing with MySQL, but I will give it some thought.
Cheers!
