Problem with 7.5

Post by jennydog »

Hi
Just installed 7.5, and when selecting cards in a spread in Free Selection Mode, the little window pops up, a small pix of the cards are shown as selected, but there are no buttons or anything else except the red Close button for the box on the window bar. So, how do I get the spread out of the window box?
Thanks

I see on the Home Page you have:
Only when the spread is complete can it be dealt by pressing a button on the template form. There is also an undo button in case the user accidentally selects the wrong card.

Except there are no buttons anywhere on the template box except the red X button to close the box.

So...where are the buttons?

Thanks

Hi Jenny,

It is really odd that you can't see the buttons. I know you must have the right version because you can see the pictures of the cards. The only thing that occurs to me is that somehow the buttons are off the screen. Do you have an unusual screen resolution - are you using the program on a laptop? I have heard of something similar happening and in both cases it was on a laptop. I have supposed that in these cases it must be an issue with the video drivers not communicating properly with .NET.

The buttons should be just below the black rectangle where you see the images. The black area ends and there are two buttons below it, on a normal coloured form background (whatever colour you have chosen in your Windows settings). Do you see the whole spread or does it seem to be truncated at all?

Anyone else having this trouble?

Cheers

Hi Richard,

No, no buttons below the black rectangle and I can see the whole spread in the box. I am running it on a laptop (I don't have a desktop).
It's a Toshiba Satellite widescreen with an nVidia GeForce FX graphics card with 128mg. Ram is 2G. processor is about 3.4MHz. Drivers are the most recent.
Screen resolution is 32-bit, 1440 x 900 px

I tried changing the background colors but still no buttons. I also noticed the the splashscreen still says 7.4, although I uninstalled 7.4 before installing 7.5.

Thanks

Hi Jennydog,

I have dug around a little bit and found a couple of articles on the internet which might relate to this issue. It seems to have something to do with the dpi settings for the font display - for some reason they are different on certain machines (maybe because large fonts is selected or something) and this confuses the program about the relative width and height of the monitor, causing it to resize the form wrong.

I have made a change to the form which might fix the problem. Could you give it another try when you get the chance - it is numbered up as 7.4.0.3.

This brings me to your other point about the version numbers. I am not really consistent with numbering. What I should do (but often forget) is not increment the big version number until it is finally released. This is so that people using the beta will see the flashing download sign when the final release is ready. If the beta was numbered up as 7.5 they would not see this, because they would already have a program with that release number, i.e. the beta version.

By the way, does this issue with the spread form being wrong affect any other parts of the program? I remember someone writing to me regarding the same issue about a year ago. What he noticed was that the splash screen which appears at the beginning is not sized right. The text and graphics should all fit in a rectangular frame and it should be nicely centered - would you say this is true for how it appears on your laptop?

Cheers
Richard

Problem with 7.5 - still no buttons

Post by jennydog »

Hi Richard

I tried the 7.4.0.3 version and still no buttons. The splash screen looks fine - everything is centered and in the frame.

Just a dumb question from me....Have you put out the spread? The buttons are greyed out and will first be activated when the spread are finish. Undo on the first card...deal out on the last.

Hi Jennydog,

I played around with my screen settings and managed to create something like you described using a screen ratio of something close to 1.6 and a font size of 120 dpi. I also managed to fix it so the buttons show - maybe they will for you now. I just uploaded it as version 7.4.0.4.

Cheers
Richard
