Second Chance Decks List, Vol. 00

Post by Dormouse »

Online Sources for Used Tarot, Oracle and Divination Decks

Whether you want to save money, recycle resources, or choose to not enrich certain publishers, buying used decks is a great way to go. (The term used here means previously owned decks, whether they have been opened and used or not.)

Below is the first draft of the Second Chance Decks List, Vol. 00.

Do you know of any online resources that are not listed here? Of the international eBays, which one(s) do you visit most often? Some large and midsize local used book dealers run back-room online businesses. perhaps you know of such a place near you. If you will email me some URLs, comments, etc. I'll do my best to turn this nascent 14-point list into a robust international tool for positive change.

Thanks, everyone.

Hi Sue,

thanks for your list. :-)

I am a member of Aeclectic and I hadn't noticed this before, so I don't know if it's new or if it's always been this way but to view the Trade section at Aeclectic (Requires a subscription or 25 posts & one week of membership). Still, membership is free and it's a very active section of the forum.

I just remembered that somebody at Aeclectic also mentioned some other websites that were good places to pick up tarot deck and book bargains. I think one of these was www.overstocked.com. I'll try and hunt up the other sites.

Hi Sue!

I've used amazon.com several times for used deck and books. Powells, alibris and mondazzi are power sellers (along with others) that I've been pleased with.

Things to watch out for when buying used from amazon:

Use a seller with a minimum of 97 positive feedbacks for at least a year and at least 5,000 sales. This ensures that they are established sellers.

Most books will have a reminder mark but are generally in like-new condition.

Used decks should be factory sealed, or be prepared for bends, nicks or scratched surfaces.

If a deck is usually sold new as a set, be sure to email the seller and ask if the deck is included.

Grading is sometimes vague and can vary from seller to seller. More established sellers are more precise in stating the condition of the book/deck. AVOID the term gently used. This can mean that sweet kitty only chewed on three, but consumed the Fool!

Savings can be substantial - anywhere from 30-75 of the retail price. Add shipping (USD) of $3.49 per item, and you can get some real buys.

Be sure to read all the fine print on amazon.com. They are pretty standard and do monitor their sellers.

Happy Shopping!

Many Blessings,
Christine

Thanks, Christine for your invaluable comments. I will include some of them in the next version of the list, which is growing quickly.
