Post by Cowhead »

Rhutobello,

Thank you for this reading. There is so much good material here for me to think about. You may be new to Tarot, but it doesn't seem that way. I like the way you relate the cards to one another, and how you always intepret them in the context of their positions -- those are things that beginners usually do *not* do, because those are things you can't read directly from the booklets. I think it shows that you are not just memorizing, you are really thinking these things through, and that is an excellent sign!

I appreciate your comments about suppressing the ego, and how the ego can be such an obstacle. But then you keep saying such nice things about me and my previous reading for Baroli! Which side are you on? :-) Honestly, I'm just a fool who reads cards!

Thank you for the thorough, thoughtful reading. You did well.

Thx for your comments and you have agein read me as an open book.....yea in order to learn this stuff I go for days and thinking what to write...I find this more useful then just sitting down and try to learn the diffrent meanings by heart...but that I might start dooing if I want to grow:)

The main reason for my reply is this comment from you:
I appreciate your comments about suppressing the ego, and how the ego can be such an obstacle. But then you keep saying such nice things about me and my previous reading for Baroli! Which side are you on? :-)

That's way I said you had to be strong in the mental because you will allways get nice input from people around that the ego want to draw to itself....the closer you come to your higher self...the more posetive input you will get.....just think about it...if you are a big ego how much praise will you get from other:):)

Reading for Rhutobello from Cowhead

Reading for Rhutobello
”Where Am I?” spread using the Pamela A (RWS) deck
June 26, 2006

Hi, Rhutobello. Thanks for letting me do this reading for you. I find doing a reading for someone else is difficult, but it teaches me new ways to look at the cards every time. So, this is helpful to me, at least! I hope there will be some bits and pieces here that you will find interesting.

I’m using a very early edition of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, known to some as the “Pamela A” deck in honor of the artist, Pamela Colman-Smith.

After shuffling, here are the cards I drew:

1) Where am I mentally? : 4 of Cups
2) Where am I physically? : 9 of Wands
3) Where am I spiritually? : Temperance

Here are my impressions of the cards in the spread:

Where Am I Mentally?
Conventional interpretations of the 4 of Cups would suggest boredom or dissatisfaction, but when I look at this card in its current context, I keep seeing something else. Let me describe it, and you can decide if my imagination is just running away from me. :-)

What I see here is someone trying to shut out distractions. He wants to focus. His posture even resembles someone meditating. There is a hand extending a cup from a cloud – it looks like an Ace of Cups. But the person isn’t looking. perhaps he is trying to ignore it, or perhaps he is just so focused on the other cups that he doesn’t see the new one being offered to him. So what does it all mean? I’m speculating here, but I wonder if the cup from the cloud might represent your intuition here. The picture seems to me to suggest that you might have a strong preference for rational, down-to-earth analysis – the three cups are “grounded” here. So, this might be a suggestion or a reminder to also pay attention to your intuition and be sure to include it in your collection of mental tools. Analysis is a wonderful thing, but often you will find that useful ideas will just seem to come to you “from out of the blue”, as if they were gifts. Perhaps they are!

Where Am I Physically?
The 9 of Wands suggests to me that your body has already been through some battles. Perhaps you have had to deal with health problems, or perhaps you have simply engaged in a lot of physical exercise. Either way, though, it appears that you are actively working to defend your health

Where Am I Spiritually?
Temperance is such a great card for this position! To me, it suggests that you are going through some changes, possibly some trials, but the outlook is very positive. Many people see Temperance as suggesting moderation, but I see it here as showing balance in the midst of abundance. All of the elements are here: The angel has one foot on earth and the other in water, wings to fly through the air, and a solar disc on the forehead producing mental fire. The water of life flows mysteriously from one vessel to another, suggesting the continuity of what is most vital even through dramatic change. The emblem on the angel’s breast shows an upward-pointing triangle within a square, which is often interpreted as representing the intermingling of the divine and the mundane – spirit blending with matter.

So, when I see this card in this position, I think the message is that spiritually you are strong, gifted, and balanced. It probably doesn’t always feel that way. When physical material is being tempered, it is often put through harsh changes. I’m thinking about metal being heated to red-hot and then pounded with hammers! Being tempered can be a trial, but it also makes you stronger. This card suggests to me that you are already well on your way.

Conclusions:
I like the way each card seems really appropriate to its position in the spread. Overall, I see a portrait of someone with abundant gifts, and with strength gained through trials and experience.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for sharing this reading with us all. You have a nice way with words!

I hope you don't mind, but I'm curious about the Quintessence. Could you tell us more about how this is found?

Cowhead,

Thanks for the compliment. I'm currently applying to school to get an MFA in creative writing/poetry, so your compliment helps me know I'm on the right path :)

Quintessence, I learned about from Banzhaf and Theler's book Keywords for the Crowley Tarot. It's kind of a summary, or overall message to the querent on how to deal with the reading's advice. To get the number, add all of the numbers on the cards. Court cards are zero, aces are one and all other cards show their own number. Then do a cross sum, until the number is 22 or lower. Then the message corresponds to the Major Arcana card with the same number (22 is the Fool, since a cross sum can't add to zero).
For example, in Barb's reading, she had the Tower (16), 2 of stones and 9 of swords. I added 16 + 2 + 9 to get 27, but since this isn't low enough to correspond to a Major Arcana, I did a cross sum 2 + 7 to give me 9. The Hermit. So the advice was to go inward and let the hand (yod) of her higher power guide her.

Hope this was helpful. Let me know if you need more clarification or would like other examples.

Well Cowhead I have to give applause and mine belief in Tarot are growing all the time.

Your 4 of Cup tells the truth.
I am soon 63 have a little shop that should have been closed ages ago, but who want a heavy used guy that for the last 40 years have been his own boss? hehehe no I think none...so I am stuck and hope to surf into the age of 67 so the state pension can save me:)
Yea...I am also down to earth, I always evaluate and I am afraid to close it down and take the chance that something else will pop up, I am afraid the unsecured, so cup of 4 and your mind tell the story alright:)
It's a bit funny that you draw this card, because in the forum I must more look like an impulsive guy at least I feel so myself:)

9 of wand
Bulls eye again...have been trough bypass operation and trying to do the best after it. It goes fine, I have turned my bad habits around and quit smoking. Funny it was my dead that awoke me and made me more feminine.
Now I can cry when I watch the news and something cruel happen,(heheheh can even cry from cartoons) I find arguing over bagatelles for vast of time, and I am more open to the mystic heaven then before, whiteout going over the edge, which should count for your Temperance card.
You say that you are just a Fool reading the cards, I say...no wonder it's one of the most valued card to get:)
Great reading....another food project for your Ego:):)

I will also use the opportunity to thank all in the reading group, I learn much from you, how to look at cards and what to say. I think this is a much more exciting way to learn Tarot then to just read one opinion (the authors) In my opinion is what make Tarot great, the diversity in how to interpret the cards around one base meaning:)

For Thomas using The Enochian Tarot
Where Am I?
6-28-06

1. Where am I mentally?
26 DES Reason (masculine)
Corresponding Angel : Cambriel

Thomas, your thoughts are pure male right now! .0)
You logic your way around things, not wanting to slow down to see there is another side to weigh into the scheme of things. You will give the emotional side a small allowence but not much.
Yes, this is you. Its who you are and how you chose to think. Nothing else would be who you are.

It is how the cow chews the cabbage, but you may want to slow down and weigh the other side of debates, a bit more. Who you are grows & changes as time goes on, in our lives.

Where am I physcially?
Suit (Pantacles)
86 TNAA Demons of Earth

Someone else can wreck havoc on work situations. Enough to drive an entire company insane. What is right to one person may not always benefit the entire company.
Here lies the frustration of the working person. Answering to the creativity of someone else. In all their madness of demanding what should be, causes strive and in strive comes sickness of the body.

When its time to walk into your home, find a way to leave the nonsense of the outer world far, far away. Find your place of total peace. Be it with another person, or in solitude. But find it, now.

3. Where am I spiritually?
Suit (Swords)
57 AKOA Lesser Angels of Air (masculine)

As a man using his logic to get around his world and mingle with others, you already know what I have told you. :0)
You know you need the time to search your soul and search yourself.

Getting away is something you want to do, something you need to do. Finding the time and place is going to be hard right now. But its essential that you find a place to find your santuary.
Regroup, refind and know your path is clear. Not jumbled with insanity! But finding it will be up to you. Do you put your head down and bull your way through or do you go to your place of peace?

Your cards total to 16. Using the Enochian cards, its
The Higher Self, Lea.
She is feminine. She calls for adjustments. She sees a change for the better when you reach her meditative place.
Use her seduction to pull yourself into a peaceful state in this time.

I hope you can get something from this reading. I just got this deck and it has a wonderful intuitive pull for me, when I use them!

Blessings with hugs,
Barb
