How about, a Reading Exchange?

Post by purple_scorp »

An idea has just popped into my head, that might help distract a few of us until the DE drama has been resolved.

We all read cards, right???? Of course, that's why we have this great software installed. Well, I was thinking, that maybe we should start up a reading exchange, right here at Orphalese. It would certainly add a bit of depth to this forum, and give people a chance to practice with the new software tools.

We could do this on a frequency suitable to everybody. Maybe once a month??? Each month we could select one spread from the Spread section, and call for interested parties. So, you don't have to participate all the time, only when you feel like it, or when you like the spread on offer and want to explore it. Then someone (a coordinator - any volunteers???) could draw partners - and we go off and read for each other (using whatever deck you wish to select). And afterwords, we could provide feedback to help those learning Tarot know whether they've hit the mark or not.

I know that some of the members here, read professionally and may not wish to participate but, I also know there are some newbies to Tarot here.

What does everybody think?

A fabulous idea for the O. community right now.

And later! If it were to evolve into a permanent Orphalese feature, I'm sure it would help to sell the program. In fact, for those people who want the program but are hesitant to spend the money, I'll bet a Reading Exchange could be the deciding factor that makes them reach for their credit cards. After all, who doesn't want a free reading? And what newbie wants to learn to give readings in a vacuum?

It's brilliant all around!

Seems like there are a few people interested which is great.......thank you to all for your enthusiasm.

Here are some more of my thoughts:

I talked about using a selected spread, and the reader's choice of deck, but on second thoughts, I'm now wondering if, we should actually select a deck too. Obviously we would need to select one that we all have copyright permission to download. But isn't this a great way to say thankyou to the deck creator????

So, not only will it be a Reading Exchange - it will also be a study group of sorts because we'll all be using the same deck/same spread. Though of course, the readings will differ because we'll probably select different cards for the spread positions. That will be an interesting thing to keep an eye out for.

This may actually encourage some publishers to allow us to download their decks for free, as, part of the Australian copyright law includes the ability to use material for study purposes.

Rhutobello, the best way for you to learn, is to jump right in and participate, rather than just reading our exchanges. We are a loving community here, and I'm sure that no matter who partners you, they will hold your hand through the process. And, there are enough people around to help out if you get stuck on an interpretation.

I was thinking also, of how we might post our readings, or whether we actually do want to post them. Because, some might be of a personal nature in which case you may prefer to email it directly to your partner.

But the fantastic thing about using Orphalese is that we can save our readings in *.reading format, email it, and then open it up in our own Orphalese screens. Then, we could add our feedback, and resave it, and email it back.

I say email, because of the privacy aspect I mentioned before, but, I'm also wondering if people might want to post their reading on Orphalese. And I'm thinking that about any reading, not just those that they are creating for the Reading Exchange.

Richard, maybe you should create a forum section (like the Spreads or carddata.xml area) where we can upload our *.reading files. Then we could practice with the spreads and decks without needing to be reading for someone else. Rhutobello, you might be more comfortable doing it this way. And, then, if the uploader agreed, anybody could download the *.reading file and add their feedback. This would take the personal/privacy aspect out of the equation because the reading would be for a generic person.

And Barb, I think you would make an excellent coordinator, thank you for volunteering. :-)

Any further comments anyone????
