Can you use the Deck Exchange Browser Offline?

Post by purple_scorp »

Hi Richard,

I wanted to sort/file all of the decks that I've downloaded. Is the Deck Exchange Browser a piece of separate software that can be used offline once you've updated/synchronised deck listings with the Tarot Zone, or do you have to be connected to the Tarot Zone in order to be able to do this?

Thanks

Hi Scorp,

Having enjoyed the luxury of ADSL for the last five years or so I have a tendency to forget that some people still dial up to get a connection. You should be able to do everything with the deck exchange offline except receive and upload new decks, or get new previews. The trouble is though that because of where the Deck Exchange is located in the program you have to go online first to enter the OTZ. Once the Deck Exchange is visible though you can close you internet connection and carry on working, moving and organising deck information, creating folders etc.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

thank you for your reply. Hmm, so, you can't share that deck exchange information on the other two computers that you have the program registered on then? Because I don't want to have to recreate the folder structure again on my laptop, from my home computer. And, if I'm at work, how will I know what I downloaded and sorted at home?

Is this scheduled for a change at some future point?

Oh, and btw - congratulations on your success in your real job.

hopefully there are a copy and paste option for the file containing the info.....Yea I too use 2 comp and it would be nice to only do the job once.
Another possibillity with such an option is to send the file to a Orphalese friend, to show what you think are a great work, the friend can then display it, delete it because it wasen't and then restore his/her own:)....well...well..whishes whishes:)
You would still connect to Exchange in order to open the file.

Just to clear it out.
My post sound like a simple operation, well it is not, with all the user Orphalese have, there are many possibiltys for errors.
This might agein create more frustration for the programmer and the user that have been unlucy, then the benefit given.

Hi Scorp,

Really there is quite an easy way to share the data between two computers. All the Deck Exchange data, including the folder structure etc, is held in a file called DeckDatabase.xml which is in a folder called Thumbs in your main Orphalese folder. The only catch is that this is marked as a system folder so you might not see it unless you tweak your Explorer settings. You just need to copy the file you want to keep to the other two machines and overwrite the existing ones.

If you want to copy the other files in that folder (the thumbnails of the deck images) you can do that too - thus adding to the number of red previewed markers you will see.

A future enhancement might be to have an Import Data and Export Data button to automate this, but in the meantime this workaround should do fine.

Cheers
