carddata.xml downloads

Post by purple_scorp »

I'm using Beta 7.2 at home and when I display the carddata.xml exchange it doesn't show the latest files. And it won't work using the new exchange, when I click on that I get an error and it shuts down Orphalese all together.

Is anyone else having problems?

You might have done this....but I post it anyway...in order to refresh the New exchange between session always hit the refresh button as first thing to do when you open the page.
This is because you load your own personal deck exchange and this must have the user input to stay up to date:)

Hi Scorp,

Re the CardData.xml, nothing has changed on that part of the OTZ in months. Can I ask the obvious quesion - how do you know it is not showing the latest files? I guess you must have uploaded one and you can't see it. Maybe there was a problem with the upload...

I just took a look at the database and the last one uploaded was Angel Voices, uploaded by Aurora today. Make sure you have the language filter set to Spanish if you want to see this though. The last one before that was Haindl Tarot Deck on the 18th. Maybe you could try uploading it again?

Re the New Exchange not working - nobody else has mentioned that, so please put me out of my misery and tell me what the error was :)

Thanks!

Ah...I just realised you said Beta.

Alisa pointed out to me the other day that the download page wasn't very clear, there was a link to the upgrade (7.2.1.0) and a link to the 7.2 beta (actually 7.1 something). The beta link was there because I had overlooked it. There shouldn't be a beta at the moment, I have deleted that link now. Which version are you using according to the About box?

Hi Richard,

yes I'm on the Beta (7.1.0.3).

In the New Deck Exchange, it lists files that are not Tarot Decks. I was trying to download the Universal Love Oracle LWB from there. I assumed that was an .xml file, but when you look in the CardData.xml Files section, that file does not exist. There are a number of files in the New Deck Exchange listing that don't seem to appear in the xml section.

The error I get when I try to download that file from the New Deck Exchange is:

UnzipFile: Wrong Local Header Signature: 0x6F727245

Are you suggesting I download and install the new 7.2 version? (Am at home on slow dial-up, hope not .))

Thanks

Update.....update.....

Okay, so it took more than half an hour but I dowloaded version 7.2 and am now able to download the Universal Love Oracle LWB without errors. Though, it took a v.long time. Now that I have it, I see that it's not an .xml file, it's a pdf and that's why it's not showing in the xml section.

Thanks,

Hi Scorp,

Yes, all the decks in the Deck Exchange and Other File Exchange are zip files. I guess there is nothing that would have stopped someone zipping up a CardData.xml file and uploading it, but really those files should be on the CardData.xml file page which is exclusively for that purpose. Most likely any notes you see there will be pdf, doc, rft files etc. Opening the comments window will also show you the uploaders original comments, which should indicate exactly what it is.

The download bug you mentioned was something with the beta that has now been fixed. I brought 7.2 out about a week ago and it was the usual story - although it worked fine on my machine lots of other people found it didn't work so great on theirs. So I have uploaded an update since then (7.2.1) and I am going to upload another one this weekend (7.2.2). The download is about 2.5 megs. As it is an issue for you I would suggest waiting a week or even two weeks more to make sure that all the bugs are out of the new deck exchange - in the meantime you can carry on using the old exchange pages, of course.

I really do apologise for this, it is obvious that I jumped the gun with 7.2. I am also aware of the need not to overwhelm people with these upgrades, so I am releasing them in a kind of stealth mode - people who download from the website are getting the latest version, and anyone who wants to help me fix these bugs can download the latest version by following the upgrade link on the downloads page. But the Save button is not flashing at people and nagging them to do this as it normally does when there is an upgrade.

Cheers

Richard
