Linda? Anyone?
There is a question on the Aecletic forum under the Orphalese tarot program, that I tried to answer. But it really needs to come from someone who is more knowledgeable.
Thanks so much!

Hi, Barbara:
I'm not into Aeclectic, if you're so kind of pasting the question here, we'll try to help. Best.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I also got your email message so I will answer it here as well.
Basically there are no new features in version 7 compared to the previous version, only bug fixes and the important difference that version 7 runs on version 2 of the .NET Framework.
It is like it is the same vehicle but version 1.1 of the engine has been replaced by version 2. Given that Microsoft have worked on this for over two years it should contain various bug fixes and performance tweaks, and the feedback generally suggests that the program does perform better with version 2 inside.
Because this change could potentially have impacted on any part of the program, causing new bugs or whatever, it made sense to avoid making any other important program changes at the same time. This way if anything did go seriously wrong I could have been pretty sure it was the Framework to blame. As it turns out though everything seems to be running smoothly.
Major improvements that are planned for version 7's ongoing development involve having more integration between the program itself and the tarot zone. This will especially affect the Forum and the Exchange pages. For example in the Forum you will have a nice selection of message trees that make it easy to find threads that you have contributed on, or very quickly find new posts on old subjects etc. This processing will be done on the user's machine rather than the server, making the program seem much more responsive. The Exchange will let people browse through decks in their entirety, viewing thumbnails of the cards - I have discovered a neat way to read zip files remotely and view the images inside them without unzipping.
I also have some ideas for making the program look and feel better, but I will keep those up my sleeve for now :)
Cheers
Richard

Afterthought...
Hi Barbara,
I forgot to say that if, as one of those posts suggested, it is the download of the .NET Framework which is proving to be problematic for this correspondent then they can order the CD from the website. For a long time I deliberately made the CD prohibitively expensive because of the time involved in burning and sending them, but now I have outsourced this part of the process to another shareware programmer friend and I put the price of a CD right down to 5 GBP or equivalent.
Cheers

Hi Barbara,
I've not been able to log onto the Tarot Zone forum for ages and I've only just seen your message today.
Nevermind, I did see the post in Aeclectic and answered it there a couple of days after it was originally posted.
I've now selected the setting to have all Tarot Zone posts emailed so I should be able to keep abreast of all the action here. .-) (Great addition, Richard, btw).
regards
