FYI New Beta Update Installation

Post by WebWeaver »

Just an fyi for those who are installing the newly uploaded Beta. You need to uninstal the program before installing the new one.

& yep the sorting is fixed :o) I also didn't blow it up with a bunch of deck changes and free selections and gathering .-)

Richard you rock!

I don't see where our King, Kind Richard, has uploaded the new update (as of yet), so are you saying the new beta wants our older version of OPT to be wiped out?

Oh dear, if so! LOL. I'm so anal that I will make zips of my spreads and decks before I do a wipe-out! .- )

Kind Richard the OPT King, does indeed ROCK!!

*may be a double post*
He did indeed upload a new beta :o) it's dated 2/26. It fixed the sort issue and I was also able to switch decks and throw cards and gather and switch, throw, gather without a glitch :o)

I don't keep my decks, spreads, and readings in the orphalese directory. I have them in my doc's for ease of backing them up, so the uninstall wasn't an issue. However I don't think they would be uninstalled anyway. Backing up is always a good thing.

Re Uninstalling:

Just to clarify the situation, when you uninstall a program using Add/Remove Programs you only ever remove the files that actually came with the program in the first place. Anything that has come along since, whether created by the program or copied and pasted in by the user will be left alone. This obviously does not change the fact that you should always keep backups of your important files, of course.

This used to mean that the Traditional Tarot and the Imperatrix Tarot would be deleted on an uninstallation, assuming that they hadn't been moved in the meantime. In fact I have changed this now so that Windows Installer doesn't treat these decks as being actual components of the program, it doesn't mind if you delete them. It was an annoyance that Windows Installer was for ever trying to repair the program by doing a reinstall if these decks were moved or deleted. But if you installed the program before about two or three months ago you will have this behaviour.

This point is very important for anyone who originally installed the program from the disk which came with Ciro Marchetti's Tarot of Dreams. When that disk image was made I had not learned the trick I just mentioned, which means that the TOD deck is treated as an integral part of the program. When you uninstall the Orphalese Tarot you will also uninstall the Tarot of Dreams. Therefore you MUST make a back-up of that deck, especially because it does not come standard with the Orphalese Tarot and will not be reinstalled with version 7. This was an oversight on my part - sorry!

Ok, my uninstall and reinstall went fine. But, my spreads are still not in alphabetical order! LOL!
But, they never have been. I did go into the spread file, and put deck, rune, tarot, oracle in frt of each different spread to help me find what I was wanting. That didn't even help! What can ya do? LOLOL!

I just have to wait till the son in law has time to wipe this pc clean and reinstall windows 2000. I normally do it, but he did a lot of updates on here so I could have more ram, etc. So, he has my restore cd at his place. Ca Sera, such is our grand life!

Thanks King of the Divan and Webweaver!

Hi Barbara,

Well I took another look and of course you are right, the spreads are not getting sorted. The folders that the spreads are in get sorted alphabetically, if you have your spreads arranged in subfolders, but not the files themselves. Like I said, most people wouldn't notice this because the file names come through in the right order anyway. I have fixed this now so the final release of version 7, planned for next weekend, will include sorted spreads.

Cheers
Richard
