Beta 6.4.3.11 Hiding Orphalese by Mistake

Post by purple_scorp »

Hi Richard,

last night I was creating a spread, and I had just placed all cards on the grid. I was working my way through adding Position and Card notes and I must have accidentally clicked on something that hid Orphalese.

CTRL+ALT+DEL did not list Orphalese under applications, but Tarot.exe was listed under the processes.

So, I'm guessing that whatever I clicked (or some keyboard combination) hid Orphalese similar to the way it's hidden when you click on the Orphalese Icon in the system tray.

But, my mouse was nowhere near the System Tray, so do you know how I would have done that?

thanks

Hi Scorp,

More to the point, did it come back?? This has happened to me a couple of times while debugging and I assumed that it was down to using Visual Studio 2002 (which compiles in version 1 of .NET) on a machine with version 2 installed. I hoped the problem would not affect users, i.e. it would be limited to debugging mode, so this is a very worrying development. Could you let me know what version of .NET the program is running on? (you can find this by looking on the About box). Cheers!

Hi Richard,

well you see, here's the thing....I didn't realise it was hidden until this morning at work, when I tried to recreate the situation before I posted. And, it was then that it dawned on me that it may have been hidden. as, I had been testing hiding through the conventional means, clicking on the icon in the status tray, and it was then that I discovered that when you do that, it doesn't display in the Task List but it does in the processes. So last night I didn't think to click on the icon in the system tray to have it return (I can next time though, if it occurs again).

It actually happened to me twice last night, within 10 minutes of each other. I was using my laptop though, and was lying in bed, lol. So, I couldn't be sure that I didn't do something stupid. At the time, it seemed to have been when I clicked on the grid, and the other time, when I clicked the left mouse button. But when I tried to replicate that this morning, no matter what I tried, I couldn't.

I'm using Net version 1.1.4322 2032 and it's on a Windows 2000 computer.

BTW - some good news. Remember the problem I was having registering the software from home? Not only couldn't I register, but I recently discovered that I also could not connect to the Tarot Zone. So, I finally followed it up with the ISP and we have figured it out. :-) For some reason, the software was using the proxy address in the LAN setting, even though Use proxy was not ticked for the dial-up settings. When I removed the tick from the LAN setting, I was able to register and connect to the Tarot Zone too. I don't know if this is a restriction from your program, or from NET Framework. But now at least we know what it was you can investigate it at your end.

Hi Scorp,

I have done so much coding the last few weeks that I am beginning to lose track of what I did when. My first thought about this thing with the program disappearing was that it was related to the .NET version, but now I think I might actually have fixed this after uploading the beta on Saturday, and that it had to do with a pop-up note sometimes appearing when a note had just been edited, and the update had not fully taken effect, which caused some odd kind of exception. At any rate I haven't had it happen for a few days now, so I will load up the next beta today or tomorrow and if you don't get it again after that we can put the matter to rest.

Good news about being able to register from home. It doesn't have anything to do with the program, more likely that .NET assumes it should use a prox if there is one named. I will keep it in mind anyway.

Cheers
Richard
