Working with more then one deck

Post by Katrin_srose »

Hi Richard,

I have a question about the usage of more then one deck.

In Germany we often use the “Quintessence”(QE) as a final advice of tarot for the question. This is a card that will be calculate out of the other cards of the spread. (Each major counts accordingly to its number with the hero counting 22. Court cards doesn’t count and the other cards count from 1 (ace) to 10. You add all numbers and then add the digits of the number. Example: You have laid out a spread with the 9 of swords, the devil and the queen of cups. Then the quintessence would be 9 (9 of swords) + 15 (devil) + 0 (queen is a court card) = 24 = 2 + 4 = 6. So the quintessence would be the lovers with the advice to do a decision by heart.)

Okay, back to my problem. I use a second deck to lay out the QE because the QE could be a card that is already laid out in the spread and so not in the first deck anymore. Now, when I copy the notes of the cards into the reading notes the card I have layed out with the second deck will be ignored. And there are no card notes shown for the cards of the second deck.

Could this be changed?

I guess, part of the problem will be that the CardData.xml has the same name for every deck and that you can’t load different files with the same name at the same time. So I guess that the card notes problem can’t be solved. But could it at least be possible to copy all laid out cards into the reading notes, no matter how many decks you have used?

Cheers Katrin

Hi Katrin,

Actually I think both these things should be possible. It is an oversight that they have not been included (I tend to forget about the possibility of the user having two or more decks on the go). I will put it on my list of bugs/new features.

When you first started describing the problem I thought you were going to ask about making it so the spread format could include a calculated quintessence card. This kind of advanced feature has been requested from time to time and at some point I do plan to have a good look at what can be done for more complex spreads, but I think it might be a while before I get around to that.

Cheers

Richard
