RE:Beta 7

Post by baretta »

Hi

I downloaded the Beta 7 This morning and cannot keep the program running. I am running windows xp home eddition. It keeps telling me that Microsoft has encountered a problem and then it shuts the program down. I am so sad. :) Is there something that I missed in the downloading process. How should I go about removing this and going back to what I had. I have already done the update for the Microsoft that was suggested. Please help. It was running so good yesterday.

Cisco342

It encounters this problem when i am pulling cards and checking the notes that belong with the cards.

Thank you

Hi Cisco,

Going back to the previous version should be easy. Just uninstall the program using Add/Remove programs, and reinstall the old one (you can download it again from the orphalese.net website if you don't have the original setup files).

Before you do that though, I would really appreciate it if you could give me some more information about the errors. For example, does it ALWAYS give you this message each time you pull a card, or just sometimes? If it is related to the notes, does the problem disappear if you turn off popup notes on the main menu?

Could you look in the program directory and see if there is a file there called errors.txt - if so could you send it to me (address = answers -at symbol- orphalese.net). Thanks.

These are the notes that were in the errors there were more but i only pulled the ones from today.
the Microsoft message comes up that says it has encountered a problem and is closing the program. it is happening when i gather the cards, when I finish sorting and when i am changing decks.

Hi Cisco,

Don't worry that you are being a pain, quite the opposite is true. It is very important for me to get this feedback because obviously these errors do not occur on my machine and I cannot recreate them for myself.

Unfortunately the information from the error file doesn't help. A message is only output there if the error is trapped. Sometimes though one error leads to another, so the first error which creates the message might be followed by the more catastrophic one which shuts the program down. In this case though, whatever is causing the error is so sudden and catastrophic and it stops the program at once.

The three actions you mention all involve sorting or shuffling, so I wonder if it is something to do with that. Am I right in thinking that the error ALWAYS happens when you sort the deck? Could you tell me what happens when you shuffle the deck (without gathering or changing decks, just choosing shuffle off the menu)? If you go into the Options form, General Settings, Program Tab, what is the preference you have there for when the program starts - is it to shuffle or to sort the cards?

Thanks for you help!

Thanks Richard You are so helpful. My Program is set up to sort assending when I open, also I cannot repeat the error. Right now I am trying. I did reboot twice during this time thinking it might be a conflicting program. So far I am still connected. I am changing decks, I am shuffling, I am sorting.

I don't know, You are so sweet to help. I thought at first it was my firewall. But I went in and fixed that also.
I am going to keep running this one and hopefully it will right itself. I just love this program and am so happy to be here.

Thanks again
