A few thoughts on the latest Beta

Hi Richard,
I haven't gotten to do a whole lot with the latest release. Maybe next week I can really put it through it's paces. I did notice a few things.
The copy to RTF, no longer includes the option to copy from the card notes instead of from the reading wizard. I'm not sure it it is needed, unless someone didn't want to use the wizard and only wanted to type directly into a RTF document.
The other is that although it is better then the last version, it's still not placing the actual card into the RTF but an image from the reading wizard. Is this how it's going to be from now on? I prefer the actual card. The way it is there is extra size to the pix which increase the file size, but I'm not getting as clear a picture of the card. I don't actually send the RTF I print to pdf and send the pdf file so prefer the larger card picture.
Shari
p.s.: Card one of the reversal project done (lol)

Hi Shari
I just released version 6.5 as you might have seen. There are a couple of things that didn't make it into this release in the end. One of them was Scorp's request to be able to add a card to a reading. There are a couple of things that made this a bit tricky, and there is always the workaround of editing the xml file manually to add the extra card (with a bit of practice this is not at all difficult).
I have also left the images in the RTF document the way they are at present. They do come from the reading wizard form, my own feeling is that it is better to have them come through with a uniform size. If you rely on the pixel size of the cards there is really a lot of variation in how big or small they might come through. Again there is a workaround for this: uncheck the box which says include images and they will not be brought it. Then you can copy and paste them in manually: select the card you want to copy and use the print screen button on your keyboard while holding down the Alt-Gr key. Then you paste the image directly into the RTF editor.
Cheers
Richard

Richard,
Congratulation on 6.5!!!!
I understand what your saying about uniform size, and if this is what you want then I'll adjust. I don't mind doing the work around but
I wasn't able to get what you were suggesting to work. I was able to copy and paste the colored notes with a picture of the card inside that very small, but not the card only. I was using Alt-G-Print Scrn.
Is there something else I need to do to get the card only at a larger size?
Thanks!
Another fine release!!
Shari

Hi Shari,
Glad you like version 6.5. You, Scorp and everyone who has contributed ideas over the last month or so must take credit for helping with some very on-the-ball thinking!
The Alt-Gr and PrtSc option is a Windows shortcut. Basically it should be like just clicking PrtSc, but with the difference that it only copies the active window to the clipboard. If it doesn't seem to be working for you it might be because the card was not the active window at the time. If you click once on the card to make sure it is selected and then try the combination again you might find it works. I am afraid it is the only suggestion that occurs to me at the moment
Cheers
Richard

Ok! Got it working. You need to turn off Pop-Up Notes (F8)
and use only Alt-PrintScrn
No G or r needed.
Thanks!

Hi Shari,
Thanks for clarifying that. On my keyboard I have one key that says Alt and another that says Alt Gr - in fact you can use either.

Hi Richard,
I've just installed 6.5 and am so excited. I see that you've included the spread description etc in Spread Management and, the dice button in Compare Cards to select a random deck. WOOHOO! Thankyou.
Oh, and just to clarify, I wasn't the person that requested adding a card to a reading. Think most of my requests are included.

Richard,
In the Deck Management Utility, I just noticed two things. One, the deck name is truncated, and two, there is no scroll bar on the Deck listing.
I have the window maximised and I can use my mouse wheel to go up and down the deck list, I wondered if this was an oversight as there is a scroll bar in both the Spreads and Reading Management Utilities.
Oh, another ooh, ahh! I love the way you now display the first card in the deck in the Deck Management Utility and then you can view the entire deck by using the scroll bar to advance one card at a time.

Hi Scorp,
Thanks for pointing out the truncated name, a Google search tells me that it is a bug with the list control that I have used - the same thing applies on the spreads and readings pages too. It is only a problem with display though. In all other respects the control behaves as though the list held the full name.
Re the scrollbars, they should appear when needed. If they don't, I can only think it is a problem with the tree control I have used. Programming is a bit like building things with Lego - when the problem is at the level of the bricks themselves there is not a lot you can do about it. (I know, I know, it is bad to blame your bricks!) What version of .NET are you using? It would be interesting to see if you had the problem with version 2.
Cheers
Richard
