Personal Card Note thoughts.

Hi Richard,
For me a better use of F8 would toggle me between the two note panes. LWP or Personal. The pop up notes for me would be better as a selection. I'm less likely to need to turn them on or off quickly as I am wanting a fast way to go back and forth between the note types. Or leave the F8 for that but maybe shift-F6 for the switch between the two types.

Now I have a 3rd type of notes on my cards (lol) I have what I call study notes. They are not for anyone be me. I might right a story or poem on a card. When I've done a card meditation, I'll type up what came to me. So these are xtra personal .-) Now I just have the deck in Orphalese twice. Which I don't have a problem with at all. I also seldom use reversals in a reading, but find it useful to have both upright and reversed LWB meanings show up in my reading. Because I may be reading an upright card with the reversed energy even though the card is showing as upright... so what I'm wondering is when you create the ability to select what shows up in the reading via the Reading Wizard would you include the option to fill with both upright and reversed card text?

I then could use the Rx meaning on the personal notes as my X-tra personal notes and when I want to print that out I could just select reversed personal notes only. Which would disregard that the card is upright. For a reading I'm doing w/out reversals I would have the option to select. LWB Upright LWB Reversed Personal Upright. no matter how the cards showed up.

As a non-programmer, I don't understand how you have it actually doing what you have it set to do. Again, I can do all of this via setting up an additional deck. Which I don't mind at ALL. I just thought after reading what you had said about the Reading Wizard, I'd throw it out there... I do also still want to add a card too .-)

For the deck information that I think Scorp brought up. Right now when you F6 without a card being drawn it shows a black screen for the card. Could that be connected to the card back and accept text. We could type deck information there and in the Reading Wizard have a place to select include card back info.

Thanks again Richard for creating a program that is truly amazing!

Hi Shari,

Regarding the F8 toggle, did you download the latest beta? Because LWB and Personal now appear in tabs in the F6 and it is truly brilliant. A one-stop shop. You can easily flip between one set of notes to the other. You can even use the Activate button (instead of the F8) to toggle between which notes are displayed as popups. You still need to use F8 to turn the pop-ups off/on though (and the F6 screen denotes which state (off/on) the pop-up is in.

Note to Richard.....maybe you could add a button to the F6 screen to turn pop-ups off/on, and do away with F8 all together???

Shari, we must think alike, because, last night, I was using the Personal Reversed field to store exercises (information) from the Workbook for the Mythic deck. Only problem with the latest beta is that it stores the information in the PersonalCardData.xml but doesn't display it in the pane (but I've sent an email to Richard about this).

I don't mind using the Personal Reversed field because I don't read reversals. But I'm wondering, is another tab (file) in order???

Regarding Deck Information. You can currently enter some basic information for each deck using F9 (Options) and clicking on the Other tab. Not phased about how/where you enter this information as it's likely to be a one-off thing for each deck anyhow. Though, it might be more user-friendly to have it as you suggested in card notes (don't know the logistics of programming it that way though).

I agree with your suggestion, it would be great if this deck information could be included in the Reading Wizard, along with the Card back image (if you so chose). I do think we could do with some extra fields on that table and I mentioned these in a thread that I created a little while ago about using Orphalese as a deck database.

In addition to having this permanent deck information, on a reading by reading basis, I might want to add some notes about why I chose that particular deck for that querent/spread etc. So, I'm looking forward to Richard's development with the Reading Notes Wizard that may eventually provide us with the flexibility to pull in information from various note sources.

Hi Shari, Scorp

I take the point about the use of the F8 key. I think it is very important to be consistent with what people have got used to, to minimize the disruption caused by making changes, so I will probably go with using a different key combination, maybe Control-F8.

I have also been toying with the idea of making the popup notes a different colour for personal notes than for LWB notes. That would mean three colours for popups (including green for readings) but it might help to make it clearer to new users because I could colour code the F6 form to tie in with this. I don't like to rely on colours because some people can't distinguish them too well or at all, but it might be generally helpful - what do you think?

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard,
I think color coding wouldn't be a bad idea because it could help someone, and it is a visual for what your looking at. The F8 thing for me has been somewhat worked out. I posted in the next post about the current way the shift-tab and ctrl-tab are working. So now that I know I can get there it isn't a big thing. Although alt-F6 would be quicker .-) I do understand about keeping backward compatible. So someone upgrading using the F8 key isn't going to have a problem. Better to keep it that way :o)

Hi Richard,

I think colour-coding notes is a great idea - especially if this carries through to the readings as well - will you also have an index in the reading to say (for example) pink = lwb, black = personal notes etc???

Thanks
