Installing to D:

Hi Richard,

My C: drive is WAY too full of other stuff for me to want to install new programs to it, so I keep my OT on D:, which has always worked swell for me. The new 5.5.0.1 beta installation wizard doesn't let me select a destination drive, nor does it seek out where the old version was loaded, so now I've got it on C:, where I don't want it. Can I just move it all to D:, or am I likely to mess everything up if I try that? Can you revise the install wizard to allow for this?

Thanx!
Gisela

Hi Gisela,

Thanks for pointing out something that should have been obvious to me.

As you have noticed I have started using a different install program for various file downloads including the upgrades. The advantage of this install program, which is from a company called ClickTeam, is that it allows you to specify a system folder which the program finds, rather than spelling out the exact path which you have to do with winzip. This is a big help for people with non-English operating systems. For example Program Files in my Spanish operating system is called Archivos de Programa.

Of course, I should have included the over-ride option, which is also possible. I will re-package it on Saturday when version 5.5 will step up to being the production release rather than a beta.

In the meantime, can you still run the program from D? If so, to experience the upgrade all you need to copy is the file Tarot.exe from C to D - I am pretty sure that nothing else has changed.

Cheers!

Richard

In Richard's defense I must say that, when I installed so long ago for the first time the Oprhalese Tarot, I was able to put it on my D: hard disk, and even select a different name for the main folder (DMX Tarot). And still it's there. But I'm pretty sure that, if you move the whole folder to other disk, it can work OK: I suggested Richard some time ago not to rely too much on Registry keys for program settings (main reason for most programs malfunction after transplantation). Another experience of mine with OT that can be helpful to other users: I got installed the Orphalese Tarot in my desktop and my laptop (each one with its own license). In order to keep synchronized bot programs, I normally drag'n'drop the whole OT folder thru my network from desktop to laptop. And it works fine: sometimes I have to re-register the laptop OT, but since it has its own license, there's no problem on that. Best.
