Website Suggestion

I am never really sure where to put website suggestions! I hope it doesn't matter too too much!
At some point in conversing with Richard he mentioned doing away with the Resident Readers page. I have been thinking about that, because my first thought was that it was a great way to get your name out as a professional reader...but I guess getting your name out to a bunch of other tarot readers maybe defeats the purpose. So I was wondering if there was any interest here at the Forum for a reading board where we can answer reading requests using our uploaded decks and interps.
Seems like whenever I join a community, the first thing I suggest is a reading request board!!!! So is there anyone interested in that at all?

I think that is an excellent suggestion.

Hi Frances,
What my thoughts are regarding the Resident Readers page is that it would be good to replace it with something much more dynamic. What I envisage is a set of options in the My OTZ page, where the user can indicate that they are a reader and they want to be included on the page, and then add a bio, banner, etc which they can come back and edit at their leisure. The page would then be updated in real time to reflect any changes.
The reading board sounds like an intriguing idea, it would make sense to usher the two things in at the same time. Could you explain in a bit more detail how it might work? What would the page actually consist of - how would it differ from a thread of conversation in the forum?
Cheers
Richard

Well I don't see anything wrong with ushering both of the things at the same time. But I am concerned that My OTZ is not exactly high profile in terms of visibility or function whereas Resident Readers jumps off the screen in stating its purpose. Resident Readers is really clear about what it is. MyOTZ sounds personal. Make My OTZ as dynamic as you want (that of course sounds great) but it would be nice to have a simple list of people willing to read, either for free or for a small fee. On the Resident Readers page, it would be nice if I could add myself to the list, with a link to my email address or my website. And also on the page it would be good for users to report back to you personally if someone on the list is not responding or is refusing to do readings, so that you could make a judgement call as to whether to remove them from the list or not.
As for the message board for doing readings, there would be absolutely no difference at all in terms of function or looks. Every thread would contain the request for the reading and the replies to the request. The only plus that I could suggest is the ability to post the pics of the cards used or for that matter, just pasting the whole reading notes right into the message.
These are just a few of my thoughts about tarot when I am not pondering peace on Earth, solving the Middle East problem, curing cancer, discovering cutting edge fuels that are good for the environment, and raising 500 foster kids to be productive citizens! A laughing smiley would good about right now! Or failing that, a good cold imported beer because American beer is terrible.
take care Frances

The best forum structure that I have ever encountered is MSN Groups. I never join any others (this forum is a recent exception). It occured to me that if you wanted, we could form an MSN group called Orphalese Tarot and us readers could be on it and that would be a great way of advertising your program.

Hi Frances,
What you said about the Readers page more or less agrees with what I was thinking. Readers could edit their profile on the My OTZ page but the profiles themselves would still appear on the Resident Readers page.
Re the beer situation, you should mention that to our regular correspondent Marvin Lawson. He feels so strongly about it that he has taken to brewing his own. I am sure he would give you some pointers if you wanted to give it a try!

I have to completely disagree with the MSN Groups Forum thing. It's incredibly bad. There is no Search feature, old posts are almost impossible to find, the input/reply screen bites and the list of goes on and on. Often you just get lost in MSN Groups. One of the worse message boards on planet Earth.
