Hi! I was looking for a list of the difference's between the Free download and the Registered version. I'm the TA for the BNU Tarot for Beginners course and I always suggest this program. Serge also mentioned it and someone has asked for a list of what you get for registering. Anyone know where I can find that?

I personally feel and always suggest... if you use a program for a year... it's time to pay up .-) if you can.

You know what they say, if you're in doubt, PRTFM (Please Read The F**** Manual). Differences between shareware and registered OT are mainly two:

1) You can only use up to THREE decks with unregistered software. You can install as many as you want, but they appear grayed and only the first three are available. Bad news for newbie Deck Exchange raiders...

2) You can log into Tarot Zone as a guest, so you're pretty limited on what you can do here.

I am correct, Richard? Translation of OT made me very familiarized with the program. Best.

Ah, I always thought that stood for Read The Fine Manual...you live and learn!

Anyway, Webweaver is a long term user of the program so I think she probably asked the question for the benefit of the students she recommends it to.

Basically yes, that is how it works of course. If you haven't registered and you want to use more than three decks you have the inconvenience of having to close the program and rename your deck folders in Explorer in order to get them to appear at the top of the list when you reopen it. Then there are the limitations on the deck exchange, so in order to download a deck you really wanted you would have to find someone who had registered and get them to download it for you. And if you got stuck using the program you would not be able to post here and get a speedy answer. Of course you might not get a speedy answer anyway but that is another story...

I have always felt very strongly that the registration price should be kept low, partly because I think it is a good business model, but also because having been a student and also unemployed at various times I know that sometimes you can't afford things like software. This is why the price is still only 20 dollars or equivalent and there is no limit on the time trial (you can buy it for yourself as a graduation present when you get your first salary cheque). It is also why I am prone to have a bit of a sense of humour failure (I like that expression!) when someone tries to come out with a crack, or keygen, which has has happened with previous versions as you know.

I forgot to mention two other big reasons for registering. At the moment registration entitles you to all future upgrades, so in twenty years time when you can use your Orphalese Tarot to do real time 3D virtual reality reads with other users across cyberspace (or whatever) then you will find that your twenty dollars went a very long way indeed. This might not always be the case, but if it changes I will be aware of who registered before and who registered after that watershed. And the other big reason for registering of course is the WARM GLOW it give you .)
