Need help creating zip file

Though I tried many times all kind of setting with Winzip 9, I am absolutely unable to create a zip file that, when extracting, automaticly create a folder.
I already tried to follow the advice in the article that explains this very thing and I read several times the help file from Winzip but it always ends with loose files!
As it seems as most of all decks uploader here are able to do this, could someone point me (maybe with a step by step explanation) to the right way?
Best regards

Hi Coredil,
When you right-click on a file in Windows Explorer, does the context menu that comes up contain a group of WinZip-related menu items? If it does, you should be able to right click on a folder (say it is a deck called Amazing Tarot) and choose Winzip, and you should have an item on that menu called Add to Amazing Tarot Zip, which will create a zip file in the same location including the folder and its contents.
If you don't see the Winzip sub group on the context menu you need to open Winzip, go into Options, Configuration and select the Explorer Enhancements tab. Make sure everything on that tab is selected.
Hope this helps!
Richard

Richard,
thanks for your answer.
Yes I get a context menu with WinZip-related items and I exactly do what you describe, choose the item add to .zip and it indeed create a zip file in the same location.
But when I extract this zip-file (also making sure, when extracting, that the option use folder information (I transcribe from german, so it probaly sounds different in english but you know what I mean)) the jpg files als loose in the folder I choose to extract!
To make sure I dont miss something I try to describe an example:
The folder that contains all the jpg files is called for example artists_inner_vision
(the decks are alphabetical sorted in subfolder a, b, c d and so on)
So the exact path on my diskdrive is:
D:/Daten/tarot_decks/a/artist_inner_vision/
I rightclick the folder artists_inner_vision
I then choose the item: add to artists_inner_visions.zip
a zip file with name artists_inner_visions.zip is then created in the folder: D:/Daten/tarot_decks/a/
The path from this zipfile is
D:/Daten/tarot_decks/a/artist_inner_vision.zip
I now doubleclick the zipfile to extract it and choose another folder to extract the files:
say D:/Daten/orphalese/
The files are then extracted but are loose in the orphalese folder
There is no artists_inner_vision folder :-((

I just tried doing Extract to... and then specifying a folder, and it seemed to work, but it could be that we have slightly different versions of Winzip. The only option I had selected was Use Folder Names.
What happens if you choose extract to here? This should extract the folder and files, which you can then move to where you want it.

Richard, I tried to extract the zip file the way you describe and indeed it creates a folder!
What I dont understand is why when extracting after opening Winzip it does not work.
Anyway, I now have uploaded the Artist's Inner Vision Tarot, could you download it and try if it works the way it should?
Best regards

Hi Coredil,
Thanks for uploading that, it is a fascinating deck, one to pore over. Unfortunately when I did Extract to Here the deck extracted without the folder. As to why, I am afraid I have no idea. I would say that the way Winzip treats folders is not really watertight. The problem may stem from different operating systems or different file systems treating folders in different ways. Anyway, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it, it only takes a few seconds to get the loose files back into a folder.
Cheers,
Richard

AFAIK, the Winzip treatment of folders is just a little less mysterious than Atlantis' existence, the faces on Mars or the success of the Da Vinci Code, for giving some examples. Normally, if you open the Windows Explorer and select a given deck folder, right-click on it and choose on Winzip menu Add to NAMEOFTHECHOSENFOLDER, it creates a ZIP on this folder, containing all the files and the mentioned deck folder. Nice. But it all depends later on receiver's WinZip version, Win version and file management. If you choose Extract to Here on Winzip context menu, sometimes you find a tidy folder with all contents inside, and if the choice is Extract to folder NAMEOFTHEZIPFILE, result is a folder nestled on another. So here's the (in)famous DMX patented method for dealing with rebel ZIP files after unzipping and getting exactly what you need (always using Windows Explorer, of course):
A) If the folders are nestled, I just take the inner one and move it (mouse click while pressing Shift) into Packs directory on HD D: (C: is where system resides on my machine, and used for tempfiles: if you're working on the same disk, no need for the Shift clicking, move is automatic). Delete ZIP and empty folders. You're done.
B) If the files appear on the current folder, create a new one with the desired name in here. Press CTRL+E (select everything), and once there, depress CTRL again and unmark not desired files (ZIP itself, newly created folder, other alien files present). Drag the result into newly created folder and follow previous advice. You're done.
Best.

@ programmer:
I guess you are right I will stop grumbling on this thing, it is too high for me .-)
@ Dominatrix:
I am glad for your support so I feel a little less dumb.
I really apreciate your description of how Winzip treatment is just a little less mysterious than ... .-)
