Windows 7 problems? Please post them here

I've been using Version 7.6 on my Win XP machine without any problems. But I just installed version 8.8.1.2 on my new laptop which is running Windows 7 home edition. I've paid and registered successfully but ...
[1]There's a small pale square appearing in the bottom left hand corner of any background. Once, this square displayed the back image of the card deck, but usually it is just blank.
[2] I can't add new decks. I've added more decks to the Packs folder. The program and The Deck Management just shows the original two decks.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the program just incompatible with Windows 7???

Hi Ralph,
Um...it should be compatible but I haven't had a chance to test it myself. From feedback though I think other people are using the program successfully on Windows 7.
The square on the bottom left corner has always been there, maybe you only just noticed it because it is more visible with some backgrounds than others. It is basically a "parking space" for the deck. If you move the deck over that square the deck parks there so as to create less clutter. That is what happened when you saw the card back there - the card back represents the parked deck. To start using the deck again you double click the square.
The problem with adding decks could be because you are adding them to the old default location for decks, which is [Program Files]/Orphalese/Orphalese Tarot/Packs. The new default location is [My Documents]/Orphalese Tarot/Packs. The reason that this has changed is because in order to create or edit files in the Programs directory under Vista or Windows 7 you need to have administrator priviliges. This meant that users were seeing a disproportionate number of alerts, even by Vista standards, which is saying something. I probably should have done more to draw attention to this reorganisation.
Cheers,
Richard

My apologies. You are quite right. I should have put more thought into it before posting. I can only put it down to the excitement of a new computer, new OS, new screen, new program.

That is cool then! Actually since I left my last post on this thread a couple of people have written to me with other Windows 7 related issues, so anyone reading this with possible similar issues please feel free to post here.

Hello!
I have been using Orphalese Tarot (paid version) for several years now on windows xp sp 3. I have a new computer with windows 7 professional 64 bit.
1) Can I install orphalese tarot on both computers or do I have to buy a second license for the new computer?
2) Does Orphalese tarot work on 64 bit Windows 7?
3) Please point me to the pages/links I would need to install on both computers.
My old computer is off at the moment, but I think I have Orphalese 8.
Thank you so much, I use Orphalese multiple times daily and the new computer just doesnt feel right without it!
Thanks in advance
Auset
This is only my second computer ever and I am not sure if I

Hi Auset,
The licence question depends on what kind of licence you bought, because there are two kinds. The "User Licence" lets you run and register updates of the program on three machines simultaneously. The "Single Machine Licence" only lets you have one main machine which you can get updates on. Either way you can install and run the program on your new machine, but if you only have the Single Machine Licence it wouldn't let you re-register on your old machine if you wanted to upgrade on that one at a later date, because the licence would have been transferred to the new one.
If you don't remember you can find out which licence you have by going into "OTZ" on the main menu of the program itself and then choosing "My Machines". You can also buy an upgrade from the website if you need to.
As far as the 64 bit version of Windows 7 goes, I don't know of anyone reporting problems with it but obviously you would want to make sure of that before upgrading your licence.
For any new installation you should get the latest version of the program from
http://www.orphalese.net/downloads.aspx.
Cheers,
Richard

whew. I have a netbook, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. For some reason in the Tarot Zone, the web page is not coming up with the icon that checks for new version.
I noticed there was an upgrade and installed it, from 8.8.whatever to 8.10.whatever.

All was good until I tried to get to the P2P area. I had to make sure the program asked for permission to run, then that feature worked.
When I click on the Tarot Zone to go to the website, I do not get the update link nor can I get to the page to upload spreads. The page says to come through the Zone, which I did and I still do not get to that particular area. I tried changing the compatiability to Windows XP service pack 2. It still will not go to the correct web page or the spreads page for downlaoding spreads.
I tried reregistering. I then realized it was not quite the right name for the computer. Does all caps matter or not? I used the all-caps, to be sure.
So all is working, except getting to the special web pages for the spreads and the update feature.
Help?

Sorry, I forgot to add I did not uninstall the previous 8.8.whatever version first. Maybe dump the whole program and try fresh would work? I hate to do that if unnecessary.
Also, reregister again if the above may fix my problem mentioned in the previous post?

Hi Debbie,
There no longer is an icon that checks for the new version. The most recent version available can be found by going to the website
http://www.orphalese.net and seeing what it says at the top of the download page. To see the version you have at the moment, for comparison, you can open the "About" box in the program. In fact I can tell you that the latest version is 8.10 so you do have the latest.
I am a bit surprised it let you install the new one without installing the old one first. Since it let you have both versions at once it should let you uninstall the old one and keep the new one without problems.
The spreads feature has changed a lot since it was a web page that you would view in the program. In the more recent versions to upload or download spreads it is a form that opens up (i.e. one of the windows in the program itself, not a browser window). It has a search button on the left and the matching spreads appear on the right. Did you see anything resembling this? If there was an error maybe you could let me know the exact wording.
Cheers
Richard

Ah! I used the '"upgrade" button. Could that be a problem?

In my Programs file, it now lists a new one that is 4.20 mb and the older one as 13.9 mb. So I can drop the older one safely? Or dump it all and re-upload would be better? It would probably be a cleaner install?

I saw that and did not know how to work it. Duh, hit the "search" button first! This is neat. It had been a while since I was on the website itself, so I did not realize the update program icon and shell-page was removed. I thought I messed up somehow. I did not realize I lost my spreads files when I changed computers last year. I had been free-wheeling it.
So... It would probably be a good thing to move my packs off, uninstall and start clean with a new install just to be sure? Would it be a problem with (yet another) re-registion?
Thank you! I do love this program. I have no other.
