Hi All,

Just wanting to jot down/share some ideas for tarot decks that have been popping into my head.
(Is this where we start saying: Artists sharpen your pencils/mix your paints/warm up your graphics programs?)

1) Red Dwarf Tarot. Richard and I have discussed this one. Based upon a BBC Sci Fi Comedy series.

2) Atlantis Tarot. The island as the Wheel of Fortune, The exploding island as the Tower. Classical Greek & Egyptian imagery.

3) Modern Tarot. A Skyscraper as the Tower. A modern Sports Car as the Chariot. All the imagery of modern life to coose from.

4) Ameridian Tarot. Taking one tribe as the basis for each deck, make a tarot (or two!) one that reflects woodland tribal culture, and one that reflects plains tribal culture. The Great White Hare as the Magician/Trickster for the woodland tribes (please,no Harvey jokes ./}), and Coyote as the Magician/Trickster for the plains tribes. The Thunderbird and a teepee as part of the Tower for the plains, etc.....

5) A Loony Tunes Tarot. Daffy Duck/Roger Rabbit as the Fool. Bugs Bunny as the Magician. Pepe Le Pue and Penelope as the Lovers (watch out for the flower pot Pepe!) The Wolf (from little red riding hood) as the Devil. Marvin the Martian as the Emperor. Then there's Fog Horn Leg Horn, The Chicken Hawk, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, Tazmanian Devil, Porky Pig, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge McDuck, etc...... It could be funny and serious, good for kids or adults.

6) A Jules Verne Tarot. This would enable a lot of Sci Fi imagery, and then add a classical/modern flavor to it. All that European scenery too!

7) Dominatrix spoke to me about a tarot of The Armored Knights. It could have a dash of chivalry, knights saving/carrying Fair Damsels, classic or fantasy castles, a dragon (or two!) the Fey, etc.... and a large helping of whimsy too! (Perhaps even a nod to all of the arthurian ballads/poetry!)

8) A redoing of the Asterix Tarot. Asterix has been a favorite on both sides of the pond for many years. I just didn't like the version at the Tarot Korea web site. (Partly, I couldn't read it, partly, I believe it wast for the card game Tarok/Tarochi)

9) An Esoteric Tarot. It could have a Card reader, overt and covert magic symbology, be either a serious of light-hearted look at esoterc topics.....

I take note, there's not much people around designing decks. Some ideas are nice, some call for a big designing effort, let me sleep on it.. As for the stoning, well.. Stop! Stop, will you?! Stop that! Stop it! Now, look! No one is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle! Do you understand?! Even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say 'Jehovah'.... Best.

Though I hadn't thought about just you with these ideas, (There's no other Artist's who are members of our little community?) thank you for the feedback, and the thought about the whistle!
Most of my artistic ability is in 3-D (furniture, card boxes, carving, etc....)
I was hoping to start up some interest in the design aspect so that you won't always be the one snowed under by requests. I've just uploaded some rune casts and am working on some other layouts, (especially some that will show off your decks to best advantage. I have one called The Car Spread that you might like/find of use, (if I can find it!) and the ideas for more bouncing around inside my head.

Your work and insights are always appreciated, Marvin. I will not bet my head you will see, time allowing it, some of those ideas for real. Personally, my biggest challenge is when someone says I would love to see a Tarot of..., and I manage to do it. Ask Aurora or Albareda, for example (Albareda was the most complex request I've ever done, asked for a ton of work). The idea of virtual and non-existant decks fascinates me, almost equally than the mere collecting (another of my passions).

BTW, the quote is from Life of Brian... from the stoning sequence. I got a Pythonian meaning of life, I can't help it. (I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and work all day...). Best.

Just keep it up and I'll go find my carving knives....... How many physical decks do you own? (The way you're going with creating decks, I probably should have started last year making deck boxes, carving the Knots of Life takes a long time. The boxes I can knock out about 10 a day even when I'm buried under other things....) LOL!
The three decks that I'm really serious about, for differing reasons are:
The Atlantis Deck, I know you would be able to make it eye poppingly beautiful. The Loony Tunes Deck, to have another (with the Peanuts Deck) that can be read for children without loosing them. And the deck that you suggested about Armored Knights. It's sort of taken on a life of it's own, since then.

I'm organizing my time better now, and should be able to talk to Richard soon about an art project for the Orphalese Tarot Community. (all we need to figure out is, who can we get to make Tarot Themed Tapestries that we can all afford financially?)

I hope that things continue to get better this year. Because if it does, I'll be able to move back home to the mountains. There I'll be able to set up my workshop(s) again, and start building things that are useful/esoteric again.

Life of Brian. I missed that one. I miss the Monty Python series too. They used to show it on PBS/BBC in America. (In a way they made too much sense!)

Nah, got already: my fave is Monty Python's Flying Circus (the Liberty Bell March by Souza). Got two original Monty Python CDs: Monty Python Sings! and Life of Brian dialogs. If you're interested in MP3 versions or audio duplication...

DVD is always good for movies, and cd for audio.
