New add-on application for Orphalese (database manager)

[[update: i won't be pursuing this]]
previously we discussed the possibility of my creating some add-on applications for Orphalese..

I may have time to work on one side project .... thinking about writing a
database manager for Orphalese Decks , Spreads, Readings etc..

I have written several commercial database systems, and several image display applications
....
how much interest would there be in this type of add-on (for a modest price) ?

Are there other applications anyone would find useful?

I think, I would write a more general Image/File Database manager that could work with any set of images.. not just Orphalese
.... but with a special version with an interface to match up with Orphalese
user's expectations..
..
could have a demo version in a couple of weeks ..

Hi Zen,

Well, you know it sounds good to me, as I said before. Of course you can count on me should you have any questions about the program, but I think you know the directory structure it uses and so on are all pretty straightforward.

I think you might need to give it more than a couple of weeks to gauge user interest though. People log in to the forum with different frequencies (or not at all) , many only once a month or so, so it might take a bit longer for people to see the post.

Cheers,
Richard

Hey Zen,

Maybe you should describe in a bit more detail how this program might work and how it might benefit people who have a lot decks, spreads or readings. What might people be able to do that they can't do with, say, Windows Explorer? I would guess things like viewing summary notes about each item, and being able to set up cross-references between decks and spreads, right?

Cheers,
Richard

hi, no rush, busy for the holidays...

what I'm starting to think, is that what I'd like to do, is an application intended to assist in the study of the Tarot...

it would be an image/database program, displays any decks, and allows the building of detailed notes
... it would provide dynamic links between cards, decks, notes, hyperlinks etc..

what I've created currently just playing around, allows me to display a card (magnified) and a commentary next to it (or where-ever) and I can click on any point (pixel)on the card (perhaps a particular symbol on the card, or any point, maybe the background) ..and then a note (or part of a note, maybe a paragraph) can be directly related to that point on the card...

as I read the notes, I can click a passage and a pointer will move to point to the related point on the card..
or i can view the card, click on a symbol .. and it will bring up the commentary on that card/point

i'm just playing around now... i could use something like this... but I'm open to nearly anything...

Hi Zen,
Thanks for the offer and starting the conversation. Currently I use the personal notes, and in some cases the Rx note area for these type of notes on the cards, I also have a separate deck that I add notes to for comparisons, and general card notes (actually lost most of my notes :'( and haven't yet rebuilt them). I'm only one person and as Richard has said it can sometimes take a while for everyone to share their thoughts.

Now... if you wrote a database add-on that would allow us to have all the deck information; that I would be willing to pay for and support. I've started to create a personal one any number of times, but it's just beyond my current db ability as there are so many variables. Having it as part of Orphalese and the ability to interface between the two, maybe to create a reading that included deck information would be wonderful. I know of only 1 currently available deck database program and it isn't of interest to me for a few reasons. I would love something like that added to Orphalese.

just mho <:o)

Happy New Year!!!!
Shari

Hi Zen,

Apologies for the late post, but I think this is the first time I've logged on to the new forum!

My concern is, where does an add-on start, and Richard's programming stop? It's true, we have been v.spoilt with Richard's openness to accommodating (almost) every request that we have made for program enhancements in the past. I have seen tremendous growth in the functionality of Orphalese over a few short years. I do recall some discussion about including some simple, additional, database fields in Orphalese but not sure where that got to.

I don't know how much of a market you would have for a purchased add-on.

regards
Violet

it was just an idea, I got committed to another project that will keep my busy for a year or two..
so won't be able to pursue the Orphalese add-on (though it did lead me to programming an image-database that will be a commericial product soon)
