Hi Everyone,

I just uploaded the beta of version 7.6.2.

The main change in this is to do with card notes. Editing card notes is now completely divorced from what card is selected. Instead, you move through the deck using Access style record navigation buttons, or jumping to a card by typing in its index number.

Related to this is a change in the way cards are toggled. When you hit F8 you get a quick toggle window that lets you go between

1) LWB Notes
2) Personal Notes
3) No Notes

I hope users will agree this makes life easier. I have to admit that the old set-up (with the toggle option on the edit form) was very counter-intuitive. Even I had to think about it each time and I programmed the darn thing!

Cheers

Hi Richard,
1st off... Yay!!!! Very, very kewl! I love it that I can now move through just the card notes.

here it comes... is there anyway once you close the notes, they can be re-focused based on the card your working with.

This can be worked through. I personally add the index number into the meaning box, so I can look at the pop up note and know what number I have to jump to. However it would be simpler, if while your working with a card and you re-open the edit it was focused on the current card your working with.

Overall in the larger scheme of using the notes, other then when setting up a deck, I want to be able to access the notes of the card I'm working with. I feel it would be extremely easy to screw up your notes.

I'm working with a card, I F6 and start typing without realizing I'm NOT in the card notes for the card I've got up on my screen. Yes I should know it, but I can see this happening really easily.

As I'm sitting here thinking about this, I would prefer it the other way. This will not make it easier for me over all. When I do readings or daily card work, it means more work to get to the card I'm working on. I would rather have to do the extra work putting in the notes originally, then to have to remember to goto the card as I'm adding meanings to a card. That is something I do daily. I'd rather have it easy daily then the once per deck this will make easy.

It's still kewl, and if we can have it both ways that would be my choice, the ability to run thru the meanings, or be focused on the currently selected card. Maybe even a focus current button? If I can only have it one way I vote for the notes being focused on the currently selected card.

Those be my thoughts....

Hi Shari,

OK, I see your point. Man, I thought that bath water was a bit lumpy.

Maybe the best of both worlds would be to have a checkbox on the card data form saying something like Navigate to clicked card or something like that, which should do just that. What do you think?

Well I think I would do it the opposite way, have the default be the active card and the check box be to move through them, again because I feel the active card will be the most used on a day to day, use by use bases. Normally when your adding DM's you start and do one right after the other. As with active card changes I do many when I'm doing readings. I like to add my meanings and I do that card by card for the ones that came up in the reading. I'm not normally working in order or through the entire deck. It happens over a period of time as I work with a card.

I hope that isn't throwing out the bath water cuz I was truly excited to see what you did...

May your bath be bubbles not lumps :o)

I've been thinking about this, and I'm working on a reading right now. It is kinda of a pain to find the card, but when I have the number it's easy. I did want to let you know that if you go too fast the number of the card in the little box doesn't keep up.

I would be curious as to how others use the program. I type meaning into a card every time I do a reading. If I'm being really good about keeping records I add them to my base deck as well. So I'm constantly using the cards one at a time. Maybe others work different.

Anyone out there want to share their opinion and how you use the card notes?
