Disk only on Laptop/Need compressed install of OPT

I have a small laptop that doesn't have an internet connection and I can only use a disk to install programs.
What I need to know is how can I get my Orphalese program onto a disk to install it on my laptop? The disk only holds 1.38 mbs.

A true duh moment for me, here! :D

Thanks!
Barb

Hi Barbara,

This takes me back a bit...You should be able to put a large single file on several disks. The thing is to zip up the installation files and anything else you want to transfer into a single file. Then you copy it on to the first floppy disk. The computer should then ask you if you want to bridge the file over several disks. When it has copied over 1.4 megs it will ask for another disk and so on. The important thing is to number the disks up as you go so you know what order they go in. When the whole file is copied you insert the first disk in the laptop and repeat the process in reverse.

Cheers
Richard

Thanks Richard.

Since this pc won't even talk to me about saving a zip
to a disk, I went into my OPT, using Windows Explorer,
and saved the entire thing that way.
I got 9 disk out of it! Whew.

Right when I thought I was home free, I went to start
it up on the laptop and I got a MSCOREE.DLL error.

I haven't a clue as to what the hell that error is, so
I guess I'm back to square one with that laptop!

Thank you for jogging my memory! :D

Hugs,
Barb

Hi Barbara,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds to me like you don't have the .NET Framework installed on the laptop. I am afraid that is about 23 megs, so you might want to start asking around amongst your friends and neighbours if anyone has a plug-in CD recorder you could borrow.

BTW, make sure you install version 2.0 of the Framework - the program won't run on the older ones.

Cheers,
Richard

Hey Barb :)
Are you sure there aren't a USB port on that Laptop.
If so you can buy a ** memorystick.
If not, do it the Rednick way...but don't say I recomended it and don't even ask what it is :) :)
Good luck.

I have experience with old laptops, even 486 ones. You can try also the following approaches:

-Use a paralel-por based hard disk. I got a old one, a 300Mb one, and I keep it just for these purposes
-If there's a Ethernet adaptor present, try to network old laptop with computer containing the files
-Sure the laptop has a PCMCIA adapter. Use a memory card (Compact Flash, Secure Digital and the like) and a PCMCIA adapter for it. Copy data on card and transfer to laptop.
-Get a ** null-modem cable, connect COM ports on both computers, and use a Z-Modem protocol program (free) to pass files from one PC to another (Warning: this is painfully slow)

When there's a computer, there's always a solution, trust me.
