P2P Deck Service Sharing Issue

Post by Nightshade »

Hello, I’ve been having an issue with the deck service for approximately a year. The issue is this: I start the p2p service to share the decks I have, after 45 min to an hour when I click on the card preview the picture is grayed out and the p2p program is unresponsive. The card preview window displays this message: The communication object.
System.ServiceModel.Channels.ClientReliableDuplexSessionChannel.cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state.
If I’m not mistaken this is a net framework wcf issue? I used to run the p2p program on a XP box and just figured it was my machines fault and finally gave up running the p2p program on it. The XP box finally decided to pass on, so a week ago I installed OT on a Windows7 Ultimate SP1 machine with all the updates to framework as of March installed. I decided to give the deck service another try on this machine, and alas I still receive the same error message. The only thing the XP and Win7 machine have in common is Comodo firewall. I’ve ported OT and the deck service through the firewall and my router. I’m kind of OCD about things not working on my computers and this is making my neurotic. I also like to share, I wouldn’t have the collection I do if someone didn’t share with me. Any ideas?

Hi Nightshade,

Thanks for posting. I posted on another thread a few weeks ago about the number of decks available in the Exchange going down, I am sure because of some technical issues. You are quite right about the error too, that is a WCF error, it is what I have used to program the Exchange. Just to clarify something, was this an error you were getting when you were trying to download one of the decks you had shared yourself, or was it with somebody else's deck? I tried to download one of your decks earlier on today and I just got the basic "the other user might have logged off" error which as you can guess is a bit of a catch all.

I would really like to be able to resolve this, as much as you would I am sure. It might be necessary to do some co-ordinated tests to try and work out what is going wrong. Would you mind if we did it by email? I can imagine there might be quite a bit of back and forth communication needed and it is probably better to take it out of the Forum until it is resolved. If you email me at administration at orphalese dot net we can take it from there.

One thing that would help out the outset would be to make sure we are using the same version of the software. I actually uploaded a new revision of the program today as well a new version of the Deck Service. If you could install both of those we would know we were definitely on the same page. The differences are: with the program itself, if the program detects that there is an obvious problem stopping you from sharing decks it activates a diagnostic tool. I don't think this will help in the current case because I can see your shared decks when your computer is online, but there seems to be a problem actually getting to the file. The new version Deck Service gives some more information that will be helpful with trying to solve this, for example it displays the unique code that identifies your computer to the server - if you copy and paste me that code it will be easier to track what is happening when someone tries to request one of your decks.

Cheers,
Richard

Thank you for replying. I'll download the new versions and install them. Email is fine, I’ll do that as soon as my machine is current. BTW Why does it say I’m a evaluation user next to the forum avatar with my name?
Thanks again, Nightshade

I am guessing the "evaluation user" thing is because you set this account up for yourself here on the Forum. You should have a forum account set up from when you registered, or from when the forum was set up (whichever was more recent), and that account should be under the same name you use to unlock the program. The password would be the unlock code you use to register the program, padded out with an X at the end if necessary to bring it up to 7 characters. If this doesn't work though you would have to send a message to Willowsheart, the Forum administrator. It is actually hosted by her on her own server.
