Question on Deck Exchange

I've seen contradictory messages on whether free users can use the deck exchange or not. (am currently free since I just downloaded it) It's a great program and once I get some spare cash I plan to register it to support the work!

I'm having issues with installing the exchange program but I don't want to pursue things and troubleshoot if it's just a matter of me using the free program. ( Problem is concerning passwords and installing on a local account and not as administrator... ) Error message is "unable to install service."

Hi there. Anyone can use the exchange in the sense of receiving decks, but if you want to share any of your own decks (i.e. upload) you need to be a registered user. You only need to install the Deck Service if you plan to do the latter. As an unregistered user you should be able to connect to the Exchange, see a list of decks and download the ones you want without having to install anything besides the Orphalese Tarot program itself.

Having said that, I am interested to hear that you having trouble installing the Deck Service. I think other people may be having trouble too because I see the number of decks available going down all the time. The issue with passwords is that if you want to install under the Local Account you can only do this if you usually use a password to log on to Windows. Otherwise you would need to isntall it under the Machine Account. Which option are you trying?

Ok, then it is a tech issue and most likely on my end. I do log into windows with a password. I have an Admin account which I usually keep pretty clean. It's saved my bacon more than once! The account I've installed Orphales under is a simple, non-admin local account. When the deck exchange asked for Install Options I selecte "Install under user account" and typed in my password. I clicked Install. Program begins to run (black DOS box) and then it stops and I get error message.

Now, thinking about it, it's quite possible my anti-virus or firewall is blocking things. I'm guessing that could be doing it? Any ideas? :D

Addendum - I turned off most of my anti-virus and also gave Orphalese and the setup program for the deck installer permission on the firewall. Still having the same issue...

It definitely wouldn't be your firewall because the service would not make any attempt to contact the server until after it was installed and properly started. If it was some other kind of protection feature you have on your computer I would think it more likely that you would get a prompt asking if you want to allow the program to make changes. It is a shame the error message isn't a bit more explicit! Have you tried the other option at all, installing it under the local machine account?
