Thank you so much

cannot install new version

Hi Baretta, this is something I've done, and maybe you might want to try it. I just did it to get a clean install because of an error I was getting.

In your Orphalese Tarot folder select Packs and Readings, click Edit>Invert Selection, now everything but Packs and Readings should be highlighted. Delete them all. Run your installation again, and see if that fixes your problem. If you have shared decks you might have to re-share them.

Hi Baretta,

So really that is an UNinstall error, right? As the message suggests, it should not make any difference if the service was not there in the first place. What happened when you tried to install the program anew?

Out of interest, did you ever try to use the Deck Exchange, and if so did you have any problems doing so? The message you got was referring to DeckService.exe, which is the Windows Service that lets you share your decks with other users. It implies it was never properly installed.

cannot install new version

Dear Richard,

I am here. I don't know what caused so many problems with my computer but I can tell you what I did. When I received the error that would not allow me to remove orphalese from my computer I went and deleted the files my self, forgeting, of course that I have to remove it from the list of program at the start button. I hope you know what I mean. Then I went in and removed it the correct way through add and remove which finally worked. I have now installed the new version and it is working great. I can even access the decks which I could not do before the new update. Thank you so much for all your time and effort that you provide for us. I love this program and cried when I found myself without it. Sorry I am a wimp.

Best to you and yours

Hi Baretta,

Ha ha, I am sure you are not a wimp at all, I know you did what many people do in similar circumstances. If one starts deleting installed files manually, instead of by using Add/Remove programs, one can create problems because the Installer's internal database is then out of step with what is actually present on the machine.

I was going to give you the following suggestion, and even though the problem now seems to be resolved I will mention it anyway for the benefit of other users who might get into a similar predicament. Microsoft publish a Windows Installer CleanUp Utility which you can download from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us. What this utility does is delete all record of a program as far as Windows Installer is concerned. If you have deleted a program manually you can use it to take the program out of the Add/Remove programs group and thus allow a fresh install.

In case anyone is puzzled, Webweaver posted recently about manually deleting files from the Orphalese Tarot directory. What she was talking about though is deleting files AFTER having first ninstalled the program. Having uninstalled the program, you can delete anything you like.

Cheers,
Richard
