Possible MacOS & Linux work around

I know that this post is old, but I was able to get Orphalese to work fully on Linux and macOS (tested on Debian 12 and macOS Sonoma 14.5 on Intel CPU).

For linux I used a flatpak app called Bottles and for Mac I used Porting Kit. Both are free to use.

Linux Instructions:
download bottles (this is a flatpak app and it is containerized, please see further down on how to access your local file system and create a .desktop entry)
create new bottle
name the bottle
create
click run executable
choose the .exe set up file
it should work right out of the box but there is no .desktop entry
if you want a app/start menu entry you will need another app called flat seal
open up flat seal
choose bottles
go to the file system category
toggle on all system files and all user files

Mac Instructions:
open porting kit
go to all apps
click on custom port
put in a name
click next until you get to the advaced setting
I chose WS12WinCX64Bit23.7.1-2 as the engine (I'm safely assuming that's the latest version), everything else I left unchanged
click next until you are prompted to choose an installer .exe
let the installer do it's thing until it prompts you to choose an .exe for the program (this does take a while, grab yourself a top quality snack and wait for it to finish)
it should automatically work out of the box
I'm posting this to it's own topic so I can more easily link to it.

Thanks for posting this, hopefully I'll get to give it a try so I can ditch Parallels.

Update on the Linux instructions:
If you're using the latest version of bottles (51.17 as of 1-3-25) you'll have to create a custom bottle using the 32-bit wine prefix
When that is done creating your bottle go under options and click on dependencies
scroll down and install the latest version of dotnet (dotnet48 as of 1/3/25)
then continue with the install of orphalese (the beta of orphalese 11 does install but the popup notes do not show, it's just a black box, same thing with the close confirmation window, to close click on the window and hit the space bar on your keyboard)
The create a desktop entry doesn't work (a known bottles bug)
here is a sample .desktop file contents. You'll need to put it in "/home/username/.local/share/applications/". If you can't see the .local folder you probably have hidden files hidden.:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Action Configure]
Exec=flatpak run --command=bottles-cli com.usebottles.bottles -b 'Orphalese'
Name=Configure in Bottles
[Desktop Entry]
Actions=Configure;
Categories=Application;

If you guys have any questions feel free to reach out. I'm thinking about making a full on tutorial including screenshots. If you want this let me know.
