Spread Snap to Grid Option

Post by StaceyUK »

Hello,

I'm creating a Grand Tableau Spread within Orphalese and I've come accross a problem in 9.0.1.1. The grid squares when using the snap to grid option are very small. So small it is hard to see them on my 23 inch screen. Are there options to make the grid squares bigger, and can an option be added to spread creation where the cards are automatically evenly spaced?

Still loving the program after years of using it!

Blessings, Stacey

Hi Stacey,

There is a natural limit on how precisely you can position the cards in the Spread Wizard, which is the pixel. You actually get more precision if you turn off the snap to grid feature. Assuming you are using your arrow keys to position the cards, one key stroke will move the card to its nearest grid line, and then the next line and so on, the lines being 3 pixels apart. If you turn the grid off it will just move the cards 1 pixel at a time. So the best way to set up a spread with lots of very small cards would be to get the positioning more or less right using the grid and then turn the grid off to fine tune the positioning.

I can imagine another problem that might come along with a spread like this is that when you lay it out some of the cards might seem slightly off position. This is because the spread coordinates are actually stored as a decimal fraction of the screen size, not as specific numbers of pixels (so the spreads can be used on different sized screens and still look the same). It is just possible that because of rounding up and down one line of cards might be a pixel too far to the left or right when you actually lay the spread out. To make sure that never happened I would need to program something like that equal spacing rule you mentioned, which might be quite a bit of work. But I am just imagining a potential extra problem here, nobody has ever actually reported it and I know that users have created some pretty large spreads. Maybe you could try it first and then post back if there were any problems.

And glad to hear you are still enjoying the program!
